This Is a Test; It Is Only a Test at Fortuna’s Wastewater Treatment Plant

Press release from the City of Fortuna:

City of Fortuna BlurThe City of Fortuna Public Works Department, along with the Fortuna Police Department and the Fortuna Volunteer Fire Department will be conducting a chemical release evacuation drill on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and Corporation yard on Dinsmore Drive.

During this time, you may hear loud, high-pitched alarms in close proximity to the WWTP, scanner traffic or witness EMS vehicles responding to the drill. Do not be alarmed. Along with the scanner and EMS traffic, City personnel in multiple vehicles will be traveling to and from the evacuation sites and the WWTP on Dinsmore Drive and Riverwalk Drive. Traffic traveling North on Dinsmore Drive may experience a slight delay while the drill is being completed. This training is designed to prepare City staff, as well as local EMS personnel, on the evacuation procedures in the event of a large-scale chemical release at the Wastewater Treatment Facility, and is required by the terms of the City’s permit to handle dangerous chemicals.

If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact Chief Treatment Plant Operator, Doug Culbert at (707) 725-1476.
