Humboldt County Animal Shelter Reunites Siberian Husky With Owner Thanks to Microchip

This is a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

Last Wednesday a female Siberian Husky was brought into the Humboldt County Animal Shelter after being found as a stray in Willow Creek. The original finders kept the dog for a few days and attempted to locate the owner through social media, but no owner came forward. When shelter employees scanned the dog for a microchip, they found one! They were able to determine through the microchip that the dog’s name is Blanca and that she is owned by someone in San Jose. When the owner in San Jose was contacted regarding Blanca, he told the shelter that she had been missing from his home for 2 weeks. The owner and Blanca were reunited [Monday], and Blanca could not have been more excited to see him! The likelihood that the owner would have ever found her without the microchip is quite low as he would of continued to look in the area where she was originally lost and would never think to look as far north as Humboldt County.

Microchipping is a safe and important part of pet ownership, helping you find your friend if they ever go missing. If you would like to get your pet microchipped, contact your veterinarian or the Sequoia Humane Society. The Sequoia Humane Society offers microchipping for $25 Tuesday through Saturday from 12-4 p.m.

Great job to the animal shelter for reuniting another lost pet with their owner!

Microchips really work. They(and a group of amazingly dedicated volunteers) have been instrumental in reuniting found cats in the Wildfire ravaged areas of Santa Rosa to their families even months after the October wildfires. Microchips have helped make the instant connection from the day the fires started to even now. ❤️

MAKE SURE YOUR PETS MICROCHIPS ARE REGISTERED! A lot of people pay the $25 but don’t follow through with registration. Pointless if you don’t register them. Also update your personal information whenever you move or change phone numbers. This can be done easily by calling the micro chip company or signing into your account. Great story btw 💕
