Gerald “Jerry” Patrick Renner: ‘a twinkle in his eyes and a smile for everyone’

Gerald "Jerry" Patrick Renner

Gerald “Jerry” Patrick Renner was born July 10, 1961. He passed away April 3, 2018 at the age of 56, surrounded by his family.

He attended Fortuna Schools and graduated from Fortuna Union High School in 1979. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fortuna. Growing up he was active in 4-H and FFA. He showed animals at the Humboldt County and Redwood Acres Fairs. He was very involved in FFA and obtained his State Farmer degree. He played Little League and basketball during his
youth and was an avid Rams, Giants, and Warriors fan.

He was a proud dairyman all his life, being a third generation dairy farmer, residing on the family ranch at Metropolitan. He was involved in Western United Dairymen and Dairyman’s Feed in Petaluma where he developed many lasting friendships. Jerry was proud of his children and supported them in all of their activities and events that included 4-H, FFA, all youth sports, and many Fortuna High school activities. He always attended and traveled to various sporting events to show his support.

He always enjoyed traveling with his family and friends. His favorite part was being able to sit “poolside”. He enjoyed life to the fullest and enjoyed being with his family and friends. He always had a “twinkle” in his eyes and a smile for everyone. He never knew a stranger and made friends everywhere he went.

He was a wonderful son, father, husband, brother, and uncle to his family and will be lovingly remembered by all.

He is survived by his wife, Patty, and children Brad, Brooke, Brett, Colton, and Hunter. He is survived by his mother, Jane Renner, and siblings Pam Zana (Charlie); Jim Renner (Mary Jo); Mary Johnson (Robert); Joe (Diane); John (Karen); and Tom. His nieces and nephews- Andy, Larry, Scott, Jennifer, Kevin, Becky, Philip, Susan, Steve, Kristy, Sarah, Blake, and all of his great nieces and nephews. His family was graced by his good humor and presence throughout their lives.

He is survived by Patty’s parents, Manuel and Dolores, and their son Mike Cruz, Uncle Rob Renner, Aunt Kay Swithenbank, and Uncle Mike Wills. Also by Angelo and Winnie Bettiga, the mother of his children, Lori Coppini (Tim), Kevin Bettiga (Elaine), and Punky.He was preceded in death by his father Carl and sister Susan, as well as his grandparents Ted and Mary Renner and Paul and Alene Wills, and many aunts and uncles, and his good friend Dwight Nunes.

The rosary was held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, on Friday April 6. Friends are invited to attend a mass of the Christian Burial, celebrated by Father Manny, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fortuna on Saturday, April 7 at 11:00 am. There will be a celebration of life at the River Lodge in Fortuna on Sunday April 8 at 11:00 am, feel free to wear Rams, Giants, Warriors, or Jerry’s favorite color Husky Blue attire.

The family would like to thank Dr Donald Baird and the staff and physicians at Open Door Community Clinic for their care; the staff at St. Joseph Outpatient Rehab, Mark, Jill, Sharon, and Susan for all of their support and encouragement; and the staff at Redwood Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements are under the direction of Goble’s Chapel, Fortuna. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Redwood Memorial Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice. Please sign the guest book at www.times-standard.com.

Jerry was one of a kind. He will be missed by so many. I have had the pleasure of knowing him most of our lives. He will live on through his family and friends. Heaven gained a wonderful man.
