The Eel River near Bridge Creek Road on the Avenue of the Giants south of Myers Flat at Eagle Point on Tuesday. [Drone photo by Christina Lombardi]
A bird’s eye view highlights the beautiful and extreme curves of the South Fork of the Eel River south of Myers Flat in the above photograph taken with a drone by local photographer Christina Lombardi. In the upper right-hand corner, the Eagle Point Viaduct carries Hwy 101 downward over the river and toward the little town.
With the rains of the last two days, the turquoise green water must have melted into a coffee with milk brown shade. The many colors of the Eel are almost as lovely as it’s curves. If you have a photo of the Eel to share, we’d love to see it.

Great photo. Thank you
Awesome picture can’t wait for summer to go kayaking
The spot we call “Felton Falls” is hidden by treetops to the right of this photo just below the separate pool. Many a canoe has spilled folks into the water there. 😁😊
That is a great photo. Is it looking west with 101 barely visible near the top of the photo? Also, I have always wanted to stop and read the plaque on the retaining wall of the Eagle Point viaduct, but there is no shoulder in which to park. Anyone know what it says?
Yes, you have the correct orientation. I believe the plaque states that this is the Hod Benedict Bridge https://books.google.com/books?id=TWYxCVjxFkEC&pg=PA684&lpg=PA684&dq=Eagle+Point+viaduct+plaque+humboldt&source=bl&ots=RizW6dImLY&sig=wTchuUknpAbCol3pIH0JUuRjjLQ&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiituC0u6baAhUT3lQKHV4YDWgQ6AEILzAB#v=onepage&q=Eagle%20Point%20viaduct%20plaque%20humboldt&f=false
This is a beautiful picture, saw it on Facebook but was little information thanks for spotting location, as I drive by the spots daily sometimes I get complacent on how much Beauty I am missing on my Trek
That is an awesome photo. And don’t you mean “Emerald” green? I wonder how it will look by late summer, should take another during low flow and see the difference?
Here ia a drone flight video over South Fork and East Branch South Fork Eel…

Neither emerald or turquoise…Its jade green,,, Never seen the EEL those other colors.
That’s due to all the illegal marijuana grows and pesticides. Those hippies sure loved taking down logging operations but it’s ok to pollute, suck our rivers dry. Hypocrites
Was it cool with you when big timber was spraying 2-4 D mixed with diesel over THOUSANDS of acres of Eel river watershed lands? Hypocricy is a self-inflicted blindness.
“Felton Falls” i love it. Have found the Felton Grove rock memorial just above the falls. Have fell in the falls. Almost capsized in kayak at the falls. Thank you for a name of the rapids. Will pass it on
I have several pictures from some recent hiking…could only load one…it’s been beautifully emerald and turquoise…
Peaceful before the rains…🌊♻️🌊♻️🌊♻️🌊♻️

Hmmmm…..Isn’t it illegal to fly “drones” in the state park?
No, it isn’t https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=29229
A couple of friends and I have had our ids ran by a ranger, we were told that if we fly in the parks we will be cited. We also have written a letter to the district superintendent about us flying in the park and getting a designated area to fly, he was not much help and also said it was not legal to fly in this park.
To fly within the regulations, you need to get permission from the land owner. If you fly commercially, you also need an FAA Remote Pilot Certificate. Regardless, it is against the regulations to fly over people or vehicles that are not part of the flight crew. https://www.faa.gov/news/fact_sheets/news_story.cfm?newsId=22615
