[UPDATE 8:28 p.m.] Law Enforcement Pursued Homicide Suspect on 101 out to Wilder Ridge Road at Speeds in Excess of 100 MPH; Three Detained

Vehicle PursuitMultiple law enforcement agencies pursued a possible homicide suspect from out of the area at speeds of up to 100 mph this afternoon. According to Samantha Karges, spokesperson for the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department, “Fortuna Police requested that we assist them in serving a felony warrant on a homicide suspect.”

She said the suspect fled at speeds in excess of 100 mph on 101 south. The California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit, she explained. “They deployed a spike strip near the Redcrest exit…The spike strip failed.”

The suspects continued at speeds of over 100 mph. “They exited at Bull Creek,” Karges said.

The driver eventually turned onto Wilder Ridge Road. The CHP conducted a felony traffic stop and held the suspect and other occupants at gunpoint. As of 5 p.m., all three are in custody but Wilder Ridge Road is currently closed.

UPDATE 6:01 p.m.: According to the North Coast News, there were two men and one woman in the vehicle. The homicide suspect is out of Tennessee.

UPDATE 6:56 p.m.: KMUD News has some photos taken at the scene. They state, “The pursuit vehicle was stopped after community members blocked the Honeydew Bridge.” Click here to see the photos by Teresa Davey.

I just heard the sirens and was wondering what was going on I had a gut instinct that told me that there was some kind of crazy chase going on then the sirens just stopped and left me wondering. Thank you for catching these wild turkeys that would be pretty scary if they did not get caught and ran off into the woods.

Tennessee last I heard. Wonder how the suspect got ID’d in Fortuna? If they stopped the car at Honeydew bridge, then he didn’t get to Wilder Ridge. Oh, right, Wilder is still blown out so they to turn around and head back to the bridge. Whole story would be very trippy. I thought maybe Honeydew Bridge Chump was finally catching some karma. Prelude to the anti-Trump blue wave this year. Oh well.

Driver was able to maneuver around it or they missed the throw? Haven’t you ever watched cops on tv before?

Nope. I dont enjoy watching shows that normalize police brutality like cops.

In real life I’ve seen spike strips deployed and usually they go all the way across the road so they cannot be driven around. Most cops understand that concept.

If he offered to buy the Honeydew crowd a beer at the store they might have let him cross the bridge.”What is your favorite color?”

F you. We real bridge chumps are upstanding and involved community members. 8 people were trapped either side of this fiasco that were trying to get to hvfc meeting. We had another truck ready to block if they broke through. Don’t talk s#@t Trolls.

>”The pursuit vehicle was stopped after community members blocked the Honeydew Bridge.”

Reminds me of the time on 36 where robbers were caught on the old ‘Bridgeville’ bridge.
They robbed the store just east of Carlotta… the store called ahead to Bridgeville.

Car blocked the east end… and a car blocked the west end when the perps car was on the bridge.
Half a dozen rifles were pointed at the robbers… they were real glad when the cops showed up.

Sheriff’s office doesn’t seem too familiar with the roads out here–sometimes that seems like a good thing–not in this case… or maybe i’m missing something. The suspect and white car pictured are on the east end of the bridge, as if they never made it to Wilder Ridge Rd. So why would Wilder Ridge have been closed? Maybe they were expecting them to take that route.
If the chase took the Bull Creek exit, they were heading west for Honeydew, where it looks like they were caught before getting off (or maybe even on?) the bridge. They would have to turn left, south, at the end of the bridge to be on Wilder Ridge Rd.
