[UPDATE 8:28 p.m.] Law Enforcement Pursued Homicide Suspect on 101 out to Wilder Ridge Road at Speeds in Excess of 100 MPH; Three Detained
Multiple law enforcement agencies pursued a possible homicide suspect from out of the area at speeds of up to 100 mph this afternoon. According to Samantha Karges, spokesperson for the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department, “Fortuna Police requested that we assist them in serving a felony warrant on a homicide suspect.”
She said the suspect fled at speeds in excess of 100 mph on 101 south. The California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit, she explained. “They deployed a spike strip near the Redcrest exit…The spike strip failed.”
The suspects continued at speeds of over 100 mph. “They exited at Bull Creek,” Karges said.
The driver eventually turned onto Wilder Ridge Road. The CHP conducted a felony traffic stop and held the suspect and other occupants at gunpoint. As of 5 p.m., all three are in custody but Wilder Ridge Road is currently closed.
UPDATE 6:01 p.m.: According to the North Coast News, there were two men and one woman in the vehicle. The homicide suspect is out of Tennessee.
UPDATE 6:56 p.m.: KMUD News has some photos taken at the scene. They state, “The pursuit vehicle was stopped after community members blocked the Honeydew Bridge.” Click here to see the photos by Teresa Davey.

I just heard the sirens and was wondering what was going on I had a gut instinct that told me that there was some kind of crazy chase going on then the sirens just stopped and left me wondering. Thank you for catching these wild turkeys that would be pretty scary if they did not get caught and ran off into the woods.
is it Zach?
Report says suspect was from “out of the area”…
Yup
Tennessee last I heard. Wonder how the suspect got ID’d in Fortuna? If they stopped the car at Honeydew bridge, then he didn’t get to Wilder Ridge. Oh, right, Wilder is still blown out so they to turn around and head back to the bridge. Whole story would be very trippy. I thought maybe Honeydew Bridge Chump was finally catching some karma. Prelude to the anti-Trump blue wave this year. Oh well.
What r u talking about?
Have you noticed that usually 3/4 of the comments in every article are utter nonsense ? People just babbling away.
Errr, whu? Yada yada yada, and you know it!
LOL – just kidding. Followed the whole chase on the scanner – usually those spike strips do the job. Wonder how the driver avoided them?
Is Zach from Tennessee? Do you read before you ask questions?
So that’s what the sirens were for! go get em! Can I have their vehicle?
not zach
I have been listening to the whole pursuit ,and I have heard nothing about any suspects ?
17cop cars for one black and a white girl and what looks like a kid now their just hanging out blocking the road . How can so many cops get to honeydew so quick but can’t make to gArbertville in 4hours bunch of wanna be is what I’m seeing
Followed speeding vehicle and picked up more cops as they went?
article says 3 detained, 2 men & 1 woman
Mean Mother…….Read the article, then reread it. And you might see the thing’s you missed..
It was a blk man in a white suv
Was it O.J. Simpson?
Great Reporting Kym it was in your blog before it was in the outpost.
That is average. Kim almost always has it first.
How does a spike strip fail?
Prolly the intended contact did not occur. Musta flown over it…
Driver was able to maneuver around it or they missed the throw? Haven’t you ever watched cops on tv before?
Nope. I dont enjoy watching shows that normalize police brutality like cops.
In real life I’ve seen spike strips deployed and usually they go all the way across the road so they cannot be driven around. Most cops understand that concept.
it was on kmud first… not that it matters
They have some fantastic photos here: https://www.facebook.com/KmudNews/posts/1460067790789388
Locals blocked the bridge🙌 Nice work!
If he offered to buy the Honeydew crowd a beer at the store they might have let him cross the bridge.”What is your favorite color?”
F you. We real bridge chumps are upstanding and involved community members. 8 people were trapped either side of this fiasco that were trying to get to hvfc meeting. We had another truck ready to block if they broke through. Don’t talk s#@t Trolls.
[edit] This is not Trump’s America. Honeydew Volunteer Fire Company rocks when it’s time to roll. HVFC saves lives and property. They care about their very special place. Friggin’ love it and I know why. Too bad you don’t. Never will. Can’t HACK it. SUB-standard. Neener, neener.
jeeezus, dude, step back from the gack
Banjo music must have filled the air!
on impulse a local drove her car to the west end of a oneway bridge, parking sideways. with all those sirens coming down hill we thought they might hit it. a real event and on bookmobile day too. hope our driver made it through the redwooods ok.
Nothing would keep Adrian from her bookmobile route. She is one intrepid woman😊💖
Thanks Gail, the bookmobile got me through, but I saw quite the parade! Honeydew rocks!
No banjo, but we did celebrate. 3rd time in 30 years we roadblocked. And got captures. If your evil,, we will not let you in or out.
Congrats. Good job.
Applause!!
U guys rock. Great job. That’s how we do it on the west side! You guys need some rubber 12 gauge rounds too. Shelter cove style! Lol 😉
Hahahaha! now that was a great comment! Good one covetroll
You’re*
Damn right. Tired of low-lifes.
Way to go locals!!
THANK YOU ROADBLOCKER & locals!!
There are at least 6 deputies chasing someone in Rancho Sequoia right now 8:30 pm. Maybe Zach?
Per scanner

The deputies in Rancho are getting ready to deploy a dog. Rancho is sealed, and there are deputies all the way out Steelhead road.
Hell ya locals !!!!
>”The pursuit vehicle was stopped after community members blocked the Honeydew Bridge.”
Reminds me of the time on 36 where robbers were caught on the old ‘Bridgeville’ bridge.
They robbed the store just east of Carlotta… the store called ahead to Bridgeville.
Car blocked the east end… and a car blocked the west end when the perps car was on the bridge.
Half a dozen rifles were pointed at the robbers… they were real glad when the cops showed up.
I love that story.
Second that 😀
High fives all around.
Locals Rock!
Congrats to the locals. This is what we need more of to let criminals know they are fighting the police AND the communities. In this case………..BLM doesn’t matter!! Put him in prison with the rest of his bros.
What does the Bureau of Land Management have to do with this at all?
Where are the comments from honeydew bridge C.H.U.M.P?
With ANY luck at all he was one of the 2 men arrested!!!
I heard his mom finally kicked him out, and he had to move to Arcata to get a job. “Spare change?” Is all the words he has left
Sheriff’s office doesn’t seem too familiar with the roads out here–sometimes that seems like a good thing–not in this case… or maybe i’m missing something. The suspect and white car pictured are on the east end of the bridge, as if they never made it to Wilder Ridge Rd. So why would Wilder Ridge have been closed? Maybe they were expecting them to take that route.
If the chase took the Bull Creek exit, they were heading west for Honeydew, where it looks like they were caught before getting off (or maybe even on?) the bridge. They would have to turn left, south, at the end of the bridge to be on Wilder Ridge Rd.
A PT Cruiser can exceed speeds of over 100 miles per hour?? Now that’s great news!
Hell yes- Honeydew folks!
Okay, Honeydew locals, here’s your challenge. What happened to Mary Stuart, and her two daughters?
