You Can Nominate Arcata to Receive a $20k Grant For Park Improvements This Month

This is a press release from the City of Arcata:

Arcata, CA – This April, citizens have the opportunity to nominate the City of Arcata to receive a $20,000 grant to help improve Arcata parks.

For the fourth year in a row, the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) is collaborating with The Walt Disney Company — including Disney|ABC Television Group and ESPN — to help fund local park improvement projects across the country through the national “Meet Me at the Park” Earth Month campaign. The US city that receives the most nominations will receive a $20,000 grant to improve a local park.

Local parks make Arcata a better place to live and shape so many of our lives. Parks are essential to the City’s health and wellbeing. Our parks provide safe places to be active and enjoy nature—and they help preserve the environment and bring the community together. With improvements needed at Valley West Park, Carlson Park, Ennes Park and Shay Park, this grant would help the City of Arcata make advancements on those projects.

From April 1 to April 30, the community will have the opportunity to nominate Arcata to receive $20,000 in grant funding to make park improvements.

At the end of April, the city with the most nominations will receive the grant funding. To nominate the City of Arcata for the grant, and for more information visit, www.NRPA.org/DisneyMeetMeAtThePark, and for complete details and official rules, visit www.meetmeatthepark.org.

I nominate the little 5 acre green belt that lies just southwest across from the Arcata Airport. That’s better than 7 homes per acre, adding to the current subdivision.

I wonder which park and what type of improvements will be considered? I think a giant playground on the square would be fabulous!
