Driver of Vehicle That Rolled Over on Rohnerville Road Earlier Today Arrested for DUI
This is a press release from the Fortuna Police Department. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:
On March 11, 2018 at approximately 1:26 PM, the Fortuna Police Department Communications Center received a report of a reckless driver in the area of Newburg Road. Moments later, the communications center received 911 calls reporting a roll over traffic collision at the intersection of Redwood Way and Rohnerville Road.
Upon arrival, officers located a Gray 2017 Nissan Sentra resting on its roof with a single occupant still in the vehicle. Fortuna Fire Department and City Ambulance responded and extricated the driver from the vehicle. The driver was transported to St Joseph Hospital for trauma related treatment.
The driver, Jacob Micheal Johnson, age 28 of Fortuna was arrested for driving while under the influence of a controlled substance.
Johnson was released at the hospital where he is receiving treatment. Johnson is currently in stable condition.
This collision is currently under investigation and anyone with information is urged to contact Officer Moore at 707-725-1414.
The department would like to remind drivers that just like drunk driving, driving under the influence of drugs is a crime – even if your impairment is due to prescribed medications, illicit drugs, over-the-counter medications or marijuana – medical or recreational.
In 2014, 38 percent of all drivers who were killed in motor vehicle crashes in California tested positive for legal and/or illegal drugs. That percentage has been increasing every year.

But but but it’s legal…
Driving under the influence?
Meth? Why do you have your 216 medical meth card?
Hum? So you can drive to the doctor, get a prescription, drive to the pharmacy, pickup your legal drugs, get back in the car. Then knowingly take the recommended perscribed dose of what ever it is you can get a DUI for? Why are the perscribers of these legal drugs also not persecuted along with the user? Not like it matters. Legal or illegal there is just to much of all of it.
are you serious, chick?
Any medication given that impairs a driver clearly states not to operate a motor vehicle while on it. It’s not legal to drive impaired on any substance.
The accident occurred about 1/4 mile from Redwood Memorial Hospital. Why was the driver transported all the way to Eureka’s St. Joseph Hospital for emergency treatment??
It depends on the patient’s level of trauma care needed. St Joe’s is a trauma center and Redwood Memorial is not.
So important to follow the instructions on any prescription, non-RX meds when it comes to driving or operating any type of heavy machinery. This includes alcohol. So many lives will be saved if/when this happens.
