[UPDATE 1:12 p.m.] Two Injured, One Arrested After Escaping Deputies, But No Gunshot Wounds in Lone Pine Motel Incident

Terrell Marzetta

An incident that began early this morning with the report of a gunshot wound, turned out to be not as first described. However, a man was arrested and two men were injured.

According to Samantha Karges, spokesperson for the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, “Early this morning our Emergency Communications Center received a call for service from a man in Garberville who told dispatchers that he had been shot during an altercation between four people at the Lone Pine Motel.”

Both Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies and medical aid responded to the scene. “Throughout the course of the investigation, deputies determined that the victim had not been shot, but was one of two men injured in the altercation,” Karges explained.

“While investigating, deputies found that one of the involved parties, Terrell Marzetta…had a one million dollar felony warrant out of Orange County for false imprisonment, pimping a minor and attempt to commit a crime,” she said.

“While being taken into custody, Marzetta escaped, fleeing on foot from deputies,” she said. Eventually, though, she explained, “Sheriff’s deputies, with the help of the California Highway Patrol, were able to locate Marzetta in the area and again take him into custody.”

Marzetta has been booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on his felony warrant, as well as fresh charges of escaping after an arrest, according to Karges.

“The incident is still under investigation,” she told us. “The two victims..have been treated and released from a local hospital.”

UPDATE 1:12 p.m.:

This is a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

On Feb. 22, 2018, at about 4:05 a.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center received a call for service from a male victim at the Rays Food Place in Garberville. The victim told dispatchers that he had been shot during an altercation between four people at the Lone Pine Motel and had walked to the business for safety.

Throughout the course of the investigation, deputies determined that the victim had not been shot, but was one of two people injured during the altercation. Both victims were transported to a local hospital, treated and released.

Also during the investigation, deputies found that one of the involved parties, 27-year-old Terrell Andre Deno Marzetta of Sacramento, had a felony warrant with a $1 million bail out of Orange County for false imprisonment, pimping a minor and attempt to commit a crime. While being taken into custody for his warrant, Marzetta escaped and fled from deputies on foot.

Sheriff’s Deputies, with the help of the California Highway Patrol, were able to locate Marzetta in the area and again take him into custody. He was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on his felony warrant and fresh charges of escaping after arrest.

This incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information about this incident or related criminal activity is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251 or the Sheriff’s Office Crime Tip line at (707) 268-2539.

Earlier Chapter: Gunshot Victim Reported in Garberville This Morning (Remember there was no actual gunshot though)

  • two sex offenders arrested in last few months in garberville redway area now a person pimping minors are these the transient homeless that need our help, that homeless sanctuary proposed in redway a block from my house and young children is really a welcome thought

    • It’s also a block from the school.

    • No these are not the transient homeless. One person was homeless and two arrested weren’t even from redway or garberville. Review ur facts, one is from orange county and one was from Oregon both wanted on felony warrants.one committed a crime against my minor Niece ( less than 10yrs old) before being arrested.

      • Not transient homeless? Who cares . There all scumbags. [edit] Sending them all to jail to receive free room and board and three square meals a day at the expense of us the tax payers. Even better , now they give you your own tablet to take online classes? Meantime we have to donate supplies to our schools and most of us can’t even get health care. [edit]

      • Fact is I’m on the one that went to the hospital get the stitches and not the one thought he got shot behind the door but he had a gun or a thought he had a gun glimmer of light off of it and noticed it was not a pistol trying to make my way out there I was unable to stop the bong from hitting me because my the door was not open all the way and then after going to the hospital hospital and explaining nobody was shot heard on the scanner that he is loose on the on the Run myself and friend of mine went looking for him and then me being the person assaulted bandage on my head. My friend and I just detained him at Humboldt house until the police got there and we walked away letting the sheriff and Highway Patrol have all the credit for what they did was their job but they’re not the one who caught him there and I get no respect around this town for it.
probably have to pay the bill for the hospital the stitches.Luckly i get to go see the awesome nurse I met tomorrow hopefully. The reality is they (cops)took couple of units out of my room that are possibly put me in danger just as much…
Miss me with the dumb shit people…. And bless the good people.

        Respect Few Fear None
It is what it is aka

    • While we don’t really know for sure, the guy’s picture makes it look like he’s not too helpless or homeless. Transient, possibly. I’m wondering if he’s up here to hide, have a little toke or two while on the run, maybe make a few bucks on the weed trade. I guess you shouldn’t assume too much, though, especially from a picture.

The weed trade has brought a few bucks to our area, and more than a few problems and its undesirables that we’ve seen. Is it the cost of doing business? I miss Mom ‘n Pop: they cared about community, started alternative schools, radio stations, co-ops, and other businesses back in the day.

Never knew the weed world would change the way it has. Never thought those times would be considered the good old days.

      • I agree. It was a business that came with rules. Lotalty and respect were the main ones. Now it’s all gone!!!! Humboldt has gone down hill

  • Can’t wait for the comments saying ‘The system failed this poor guy, and he can be rehabilitated.’ Put him in Pelican, he serves no purpose out in public.

  • Does it bother anyone else how much Kym makes our town look bad and its not even true?

    • Guest, What isn’t true? It was reported as a gunshot wound. It later turned out to be something else and I updated to report that. However, the story is hardly a glowing star in SoHum’s history.

I don’t think there are many folks as passionate as I am about Southern Humboldt. But we’ve got some problems—if you can show me I’ve reported even one of part of a story as more than it is, I’ll retract it.

      • Kudos, Kym. Nothing but respect.

      • Muddy Black Dodge

Thank you Kym for reporting on the good, the bad and the ugly.

      • Screw the ones who talk shit about you..all they do is sit and make “mostly ridiculous” remarks..let them get off their High faluting ass and try to do your job..Do You jerks hear me? And most of the remarks you make have nothing to do with the story anyway..example…someone was hit by a car today…answer..welll, they should have not been selling dope they might have made it across the street…Yes, you do sound that stupid!

    • Really???”Kym makes our town look bad”. Did you really hit the reply button after typing that? I dislike that media is able to mold how people think and see things, but come on. Kym’s blogg is just that a blogg. She doesn’t really have anything to do with what happens in society. She reports what IS happening…things people are doing…the good and the bad. She may lean towards the pro marijuana side a bit, but she does not hide it and allows others to voice their opinion (as long as they do it respectfully and aren’t just out right mean about it). That is more than you get from “real news sources”. Kym provides a service and even if I don’t agree with her on everything, I sure can’t blame her for what is happening in our community. Face it, our local newspapers suck. The RHB is an honest and helpful community resource.

    • Unfortunately, your town IS bad and I am speaking as a former resident! I moved from that area due to how bad it had become in the 20 odd years that I lived there. Just the mere thought of going down there gives me a panic attack of major proportions. Kym isn’t the one making it look bad!

      • you ran away crying but your here online whining? makes no sense. move on, glad u left. bye bye now. no one cares u left, we care bout here now. FO!

    • Nah, doesn’t bother me in the least. I’m glad someone does the news for Southern Humboldt. Haven’t we learned anything about hiding the truth?

    • Guest, it seems that fake FOX News is more your style. Kym reports the goings on in our community with concise journalism. If you don’t like it, don’t read it.
Keep up the awesome work Kym.

    • I’m a 4th generation residents, born in Garberville Hospital. The town doesn’t need any help to look bad! It does a fine job on its own.

  • I just wonder what it is that brings all of these quality individuals into our communities

    • Must be the drug-free zone that draws them

    • What brings dreadlocked young black men to SoHum? Really? Did you forget about Reggae on the River? Young women fantasize about finding an Irie guy…but they don’t know how to recognize a predator when they see one.

  • Ooh shit you know that they say. “Pimpin ain’t easy!”

  • I just wonder what drives this dude to be this way? It’s so sad! I would hate to be his mother.

  • unbridled phillistine

Pimping a minor? What a scumbag! Everybody on the coast starting to look like this guy. Long haired, Dirt bag. Clean up Humboldt, Start by looking in mirror and shave your ugly mugs! Hey bro cool pony tail, Said nobody….Ever.

  • Trafficking minors for sex is a big problem in Humboldt. Get them hooked on heroin and then prostitute them. Epidemic proportions.

  • Does he look like a local?NO,he’s here to hide thinking he might blend in with whats hanging around town now days.We as town members and mtn folks never use to have a problem picking this trash out of a crowd and sending them on there way, so come on its our town, grow some, and help Matt Dillon move these folks on there way, Kym you do a great job,if the issue is their as you post, then its their, its in black and white, folks need to read it don’t dissect it and be critical, it is what it is!

    • I appreciate the support (a lot, thank you) but I’m a little concerned that you appear to be saying that people who look different from us should be sent out of town. I don’t think looks are the problem. Actions are but not looks.

      • Your right my bad, i should of said if we as locals knew what he was doing, which is wrong,he should have a bus ticket out of town. We as mtn people come to town to shop or eat, in the short time in town if paying attention one can pick-up on whats going on, so come on folks pay attention, and report it or get in volved, this is our community, we can make a difference. Keep up the great time consuming work Kym with out you a lot could go on and on with folks never noticing.

  • Keep up the good fight, Kym.

  • Kym kemp ,for mayor .I
to am very about!!!!!! the well-being of the Native Humboldt County people such as you ,and I kym.i just get frustrated because the answer to our drug problem is the police have to keep cracking down on the major main line. supply of the heroin, and meth coming into our home.if there is no dope the homeless addict gets clean our moves away . Win-win situation get rid of the dope and the addict will follow ..your blog is awesome I tead it every single day.

  • I was coming into Garberville early this morning and saw two obvious tourists pulling out of the Lone Pine Motel with aftershock looks on their faces. I felt bad for them but all they had to do was Yelp the dump and they would have been at either the Benbow or Best Western. Nothing good goes down at the Lone Pine. Nothing.

    • Life Is Good. Maybe those tourists are traveling on a budget and the BW or Benbow is out of their financial means. Neither of those inns are cheap or for the working Joe’s pocket book.
I also do not think Kym is posting more ‘bad’ than good stories. I make a point of reading more of the good than bad. She’s not making these stories up! Unfortunately, if one listens to the local radio stations, and their news, they just repeat most of the bad stories anyways. For instance today how many even clicked on the story about the Deputy Director of the Arcata Development Center? I did because I was curious of I would recognize the name of the person.

    • [Edit: Any more comments like that and I will ban you. Kym]

  • If the man is guilty of pimping a minor (which is a polite way of saying the child is raped repeatedly) then he and other people who do that (men or women) should be given jail time with no chance of parole. And that’s the kindest thing I wish for them.

  • Kimberly Olson, I’m so sorry about your niece. Please tell us she’s back home and being well cared for! !

  • Concerned Business Owner and Resident

Scourge in garberville and Redway motels is a problem from top to bottom.

One of the top 5 reasons that these towns are falling apart. You can’t attract travelers if there is no where safe or sanitary to stay. Bottom line. Serious pressure should be placed on the hotels by locals and local businesses to end the meth/violent criminal activity/sex traffic. Otherwise, they should be turned in to county health and heavily patrolled by law enforcement to force a clean up. PERIOD.

You can’t have meth, mayhem and sex crime on main street and expect to have prosperity.

Kick them all up or down the freeway, it doesn’t really matter because So Hum does not have the resources to police or rehab this type of mess or bust sex rings. Cities in CA don’t even have the resources and are clearing city blocks and bussing people out.

Town is littered with hardened drug dealers and addicts and vagrants – not homeless, not working class struggling – vagrants who have to intention of integrating into the community in a productive way. If that was the plan, they would be doing it.

  • Lone Pine Motel is known as a prostitution house. Pimps drive their women, meth, cocaine and heroine up to Humboldt to trade sex and dope for weed and cash. All the small Hotels from Ukiah North to Eureka are filled with pimps, hookers, needle users, meth addicts and people running from the law…… think about it, this pimp is already wanted for pimping minors, what do u think he was dling in Humboldt, enjoying redwoods….. ? Nope, guaranteed he was slinging hookers and slinging meth and cocaine in the drug motels….. heads up same thing in Ukiah, Willits, Laytonville, Lake County Garberville, Fortuna, Eureka, Arcata

  • Too Busy With Asset Forfeiture

Once again the Humboldt and Mendo Sheriffs will do nothing to change the situation because they dont make money busting pimps and small time ice dealers. They focus all of their energy on marijuana because marijuana means ASSET FORFEITURE, WHICH MEANS MONEY TO THE DEPARTMENT, they dont investigate real crimes with victims, that costs money, homicides, missing persons, human smuggling and pimping as well as small time dope dealing are all ignored in the Sheriff’s quest for green paperbacks $100 bills

  • Wonder if this pimpin fool was the one that robbed shane at the humboldt house inn last fall? Remember the chase through town and all?

  • Lock him up, DANGER

Seems he has been in Southern Humboldt since 2017 judging from the driving without a license arrest in Garberville, I think police should look deeper into his human smuggling and pimping as well as drug dealing in Garberville Southern Hum area….. dont look good, bet he is the one running the prostitutes in Southern Humboldt on backpage and in the local ghetto motels

  • [edit] violent predatory scumbags from elsewhere who come to hide from their past , prey on locals and hustle few bucks from drug trade , should no longer be allowed to feel safe operating in our area .

    • Rob,
I don’t allow threats or encouragement of violence.

Here are the guidelines I use to decide what to delete or edit out. They are designed to promote civil discussion.

      1. Civility is valued by the moderator.
      2. Insulting other commenters will get you deleted. Do it too often and you will get banned.
      3. No slurs–racial, ethnic, gender, political etc. Also, stop calling local places by sneering nicknames.
      4. Try to add value to the website by offering information, art, humor or, most of all, thoughtful discussion.
      5. Free speech is valued by the moderator and sometimes that trumps civility but don’t push it.
      6. Also, grammar, punctuation, spelling criticisms should come from parents, teachers, and bosses not anonymous people on the internet. If you can understand what someone says, refrain from telling them how to edit their comments. The one exception to this is me. If I make an error, politely pointing it out is fine.
      7. Punch up. Mocking people in positions of authority is acceptable, sometimes even helpful. Mocking children, the disabled, those suffering from misfortunate, those in a minority who don’t have power is something a bully does.
      8. Don’t threaten or encourage violence.

  • And please don’t imply that I’m being racist. This guy is no Emmit Till. It would be no tragedy if his previous shenanigans lead to a gruesome, humiliating doom.
