[UPDATE: Not as Reported] Eureka Police Called to 5th Street for Possible Assault

“Multiple Eureka Police units on scene at 5th between B and C St for what was broadcast as a female possibly being assaulted,” according to Operation Safe Streets.  “Officers broke out a window to extract a female. At least one female and one male have been detained. Officers are running several names.”

An employee at a nearby business told us, “Some guy came in here saying a lady broke a window and needed help.” According to what the man told the employee, the woman was saying she was assaulted. The employee said that her fellow employee and the man tried to assist the woman but she wouldn’t let them. At that point, they called Eureka Police for help.

UPDATE 8:50 a.m. Tuesday: Brittany Powell of the EPD tells us, “This incident occurred at a boarded up building on the 100 block of 5th Street around 8:30 p.m. Initially it was reported that a female inside of the building was yelling for help and that she had been assaulted. People from across the street assisted her and called the police. EPD arrived and found a male and female inside the boarded up building. A sleeping area was also observed inside. Officers were able to safely remove the male and female from the window and confirmed there was nobody else inside.

It was determined the male and female forced entry into the boarded up building to sleep. A disturbance occurred and the female broke out the window. The reported assault was unfounded. Jennifer Gibbs and Damon Wright were arrested for public intoxication and illegal lodging.”
