[UPDATE 10:15 p.m.] Law Enforcement Investigating Incident Near Redway School

Law enforcement is investigating a situation near Redway School and details are still unclear. We do know that at approximately 4:16 p.m., emergency dispatch received the report of a possible stabbing near Redway School. According to Redway Fire Chief Brian Anderson, “We got called for medical aid with violence. However, it was not as reported. There was no stabbing.”

Anderson was unable to give more details and referred us to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department. We’ve called and requested more information.

UPDATE 10:15 p.m.: According to Sgt Jesse Taylor of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department, “[I] can tell you that we were dispatched to a reported stabbing near the ball fields at the school. It was later determined that a stabbing did not occur but the suspect, Chase Gainey, attempted to stab a citizen. He was subsequently arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, DUI, and other charges. We’ll put out more info tomorrow…No persons were seriously injured.”
