Dear Southern Humboldt Community,Southern Humboldt Family Resource Center
The Southern Humboldt Family Resource Center (SHFRC) was bustling with excitement in December, as community volunteers and center staff prepared for the holidays. The SHFRC coordinates holiday gift and food programs that are available for children and families in our community. The Holiday Funding Partnership, through the Humboldt Area Foundation, is a wonderful group of funders which provided funds for the events. Several Southern Humboldt groups contributed to the great turn out, including WISH, The Vets, The Mateel Community Center, Garberville Food Pantry, Presbyterian Church, The Baptist Church, New Hope Assembly of God, Shop Smart and Rays, Chautauqua, Parkinson’s, and Costco.

We are very grateful to those who gave contributions of time or money in local donations to help fill the food bags and provide toys. Special thanks to a great group of volunteers who joined in the organizational preparation and distribution work. The SHFRC works with other local agencies to be sure that all who want holiday help will receive it, including Head Start programs, Southern Humboldt Unified School District, Cal-Fresh, Healy Senior Center, County Public Health, and Social Services Programs.

Hot meals were served by volunteers and toys were distributed by Santa at the Mateel Community Center on Christmas Day during their annual community dinner – another fantastic cooperative event. Dozens of toys were distributed to families to wrap and put under the tree by the Toys for Tots program, run by the Kiwanis.

The SHFRC is moving on into the New Year, with all the good will and big-hearted spirit of our volunteers, supporters and donors, to continue to assist families with connections to whatever resources they may need. We extend our sincere thanks to all of our partners for their amazing efforts and contributions to making this holiday season a good one for so many families. The SHFRC is located on Whitmore Avenue in Redway, behind Redway School. For schedules of Southern Humboldt playgroups, parent workshops, school events, or to be connected with community resources, please come in, call us at 923-1147, or visit our FB page Family Resource Center Southern Humboldt.

Sincerely,
All of Us at the Family Resource Center
