[UPDATE 11:45 a.m. Monday] Snow on Hwy 299; Chain Control on Hwys 3 and 36

Caltrans District 2 announced via Twitter that State Route 299 is closed from one mile east of Junction City to Weaverville “due to winter weather conditions and multiple vehicle spin-outs.”

Multiple other areas on 3, 36, and 299 have various levels of chains required restrictions. Below are shots from Caltrans District 2 cameras taken this evening that gives an idea of what the snow conditions are like.

UPDATE 8:26 p.m.: Caltrans District tweeted that 299 has reopened between Weaverville and Junction City. According to QuickMap, “Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles except four wheel/ all wheel drive vehicles with snow-tread tires on all four wheels. (Four wheel/all wheel drive vehicles must carry traction devices in chain control areas).”

UPDATE 7:15 a.m.:
There are no chains required on Hwy 299, according to Caltrans QuickMap. However, there are still chains required on State Routes 3 and 36.

UPDATE 11:45 a.m. Monday: State Routes 3, 36 and 299 no longer have any chain requirements in Trinity County, according to Caltrans Quickmap.
