Shooting in Eureka Last Night, Victim Doesn’t Wish to Pursue Charges; Story Contradicts Witness

Eureka Police Department EPDEarly this morning, a woman in Eureka who wishes to remain anonymous said she reported a single shot. She said she heard yelling and looked out the window. There were two men outside of a car.  “It looked like they were driving in the same car,” she said. The passenger in the front and passenger in the back “They were standing on the sidewalk yelling at each other.  There was a single gunshot. They continued to yell for a few more minutes. Then the back passenger walked off on foot.” I called 911 and they got there in like 5 minutes. Neither one were holding themselves. I didn’t know someone got shot until EPD showed up and said someone showed up with a gunshot wound.”

This contradicts the information given by the victim that he was shot by three unknown male subjects that walked out of the bushes. See press release below.

According to Brittany Powell, spokesperson for the Eureka Police at about 4 a.m., a male victim went to the hospital with a gunshot wound that police believe he received near 9th and M Streets.

“The victim signed a “No Further Action form,” according to Brittany Powell. She explained that means he does not wish to pursue charges. “We are still following up and investigating,” she said.

Press release from the Eureka Police:

On January 16, 2018, at about 3:27 a.m., officers with the Eureka Police Department responded to the 900 block of M Street for the report of a fight between male subjects then a single gunshot heard. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate any subjects or a crime scene.

At about 4:04 a.m., EPD received a call that a male with a gunshot wound was being treated in St. Joseph’s Hospital emergency room. Officers responded to the hospital and spoke to the male victim.

The victim reported that he was walking on M Street near 10th Street in Eureka, when three unknown male subjects walked out of the bushes and attempted to rob him of money. When the victim refused to turnover his money, one of the male subjects brandished a firearm and shot the victim in the shoulder. The three suspects fled on foot. The male victim flagged down a passing vehicle and was transported to the emergency room.

The victim’s injuries were non-life threatening and he was released by ER staff after treatment. The victim requested no further investigation by the Eureka Police Department, but due to the reported nature of the assault, anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Detective Cosetti at (707) 441-4315.

Isn’t gunshot wounds and stab wounds still punishable without the consent of the victim? Is law enforcement being lazy and not wanting to pursue it further?

No big surprise. Drug deals and whores at Ross Park. Tweekers and other drugged out homeless zombies moving in and out of the green belt of Cooper’s Gulch. Now there are a lot of latino gangs cruising that area on foot, bicycles and cars all the time. Car windows being broke out. EPD knows of a couple of drug houses in that area and they don’t do squat.
