[UPDATE 7:37 p.m.] Reported Head-on Accident on Hwy 101 Near Redcrest Not Found

At approximately 7:04 p.m., a vehicle crossed the center divide of Hwy 101 just south of Redcrest and struck another vehicle head-on just south of Redcrest, according to traffic on the scanner. The CHP Traffic Incident Information Page reports that a truck is “broken up” with the bed off the vehicle. The page also reports that the truck as well as another vehicle are in the roadway.

Scotia and Redcrest Volunteer Fire Departments are responding to the scene. An ambulance is responding also.

UPDATE 7:37 p.m.: Multiple agencies including those listed above and the four California Highway Patrol searched and did not find the vehicles that had been reported in the accident. Officials are now calling off the search for the accident.

Is this some game like “swatting” thats going around the internet, calling in false reports? Wasn’t there another reported accident with a motorcycle that they couldn’t find in the last few days?
Someone said its a diversion technique that gangs sometimes use to move big loads of illegal contraband.

I was thinking that wasting the time of LEO’s appears to be a major sport of Humboldt County residents, and that there could be a reason why people want cops to be one place when something is happening elsewhere…
