[UPDATE 10:02 p.m.] 33-Year-Old Man With a Gunshot Wound in Eureka

At approximately 9:30 p.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to a motel on 5th Street in Eureka for the report of a 33-year-old man with a gunshot wound, according to the scanner. Personnel were told that there was no need to stage which usually means that the shooter is not longer on site but we don’t know the details of the incident at this point.

Eureka Police are requesting additional officers at the scene including a K-9 unit.

Please remember that we are gathering information from radio traffic and details may not be as first reported to 911.

UPDATE 10:02 p.m.: According to EPD Sgt. Lenny La France, the man possibly shot himself one time in the leg. Eureka Police officers started first aid until an ambulance arrived and took the wounded man to St Joseph Hospital.
