Yesterday, Driver Escaped Car Sinking in the Eureka Slough
Yesterday afternoon, a vehicle went off northbound 101 into the Eureka Slough. According to Pat Cherry, who arrived just as the car was sinking, The driver told him that he escaped the sinking vehicle by crawling out of the window. “[The driver] was probably about 25 and soaking wet,” Cherry said.
According to Cherry, the driver told him that he had accelerated trying to merge into the exit towards the Harley Davidson store and couldn’t make the turn.
Cherry said when he got there “all I could see was the bumper sticking out.” By the time Cherry got out of his truck, the car sank into the Slough. “It is surprisingly deep there,” Cherry said.
Later, Cherry took a photo of the 70’s Pontiac being towed.

Yeah. Its tough to turn at 85 mph isnt it?
Guess I’m the weird guy out for being happy this guy made it out of his car the day before Thanksgiving. Gives HIM something to be thankful about – hope he is, and not worrying about the cost to fix his car.
Obviously, none of you commentators have been first responders or paramedics – I still remember a crashed vehicle on 101 full of presents and blood – divorced mom and two kids off to see uncle in Oregon – head-on by a drunk that crossed over the line. They all survived, but it did spoil their Christmas…
no, you are the sane one. thanks for being here.
Thanks for the kind words for the person involved in the accident.
Would that be cheaper than a detail shop?
