Man Robbed of Wallet by Bike-Riding, Knife-Wielding Bandit

Press release from Eureka Police:

On November 20, 2017, at about 1:05 p.m., officers with the Eureka Police Department responded to the parking lot of a bank on the 400 block of G Street for the report of a robbery.

The victim said he had just exited his vehicle with his daughter when an unknown male approached him from behind and asked for money. When the victim turned around, the suspect brandished a fixed blade knife and removed the victim’s wallet from his pants pocket. The suspect fled on a bike east on 4th Street.

The suspect was described as a white male, 5’6” to 5’7”, thin build, and had a dark beard. The suspect was wearing a black rain jacket with the hood up and was riding a bike described as poorly spray painted black.

A detective has been assigned to the case and possible surveillance is being sought. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Eureka Police Department at (707) 441-4044.

Parking lot safety tips:

– Park in highly visible, well-lit areas, preferably with surveillance cameras.

– Be cautious of people loitering, requesting assistance, asking questions.

– Stay off your cell phone while walking to and from your vehicle to avoid distraction.

– Be discreet with your money and valuables.

– Always be aware of your surroundings.

This is too crazy. What has become of our county?
A couple of years ago I decided it was time I gave my kids a little leeway and let them go to a movie by themselves and a friend. They were around 14 and 15 at the time. Big deal to me because I am, as my sister puts it, not just a helicopter Mom but a Huey. Anyhow, I thought I should let the boys experience life a bit. I left them at Broadway Cinema and went out shopping. When I got back after the movie was over to pick them up, I was greeted by the manager. Who told me not to worry things were being taken care of. What?! So my boys go to the restroom, in pairs as I have taught them in order to be safe, are witnesses to some guys snorting lines. To me this is the worst nightmare I can imagine. This is how these predators work. Sure has got bad around here so sorry to see the road get so damn dangerous. Keep a close eye on your friends and neighbors. Home is not what it used to be. God Bless and keep safe.

Always irritates to get the little appendages on police reports about how to be safe. What does ‘well lighted parking lots’ have to do with a robbery at 1pm? Think the man was going in a tunnel to the bank? ‘Be cautious of people loitering’, etc? In Eureka there’s no avoiding begging, crazy, or threatening people- they’re everywhere. ‘Be discreet with valuables’? I guess that having a wallet in a pocket is indiscrete.

Let’s face it. Going anywhere in Eureka is not safe any more. We have the dystopian world that we tolerated into existence. Few jobs, little safety, lots of crime and drugs.

Agreed. It will get much worse. Don’t forget- we are looking at 100s of millions of dollars annually leaving our county. The weed money is gone yet all the criminals remain. Think about those ramifications!

I like how the first suggestion is to park in well lit areas, it was 1 in the afternoon.

I finally got pepper spray, better than nothing. I have it ready at all times. That’s what Humboldt County has come to, it’s a disaster and not safe day or night, if you think it is, you’re wrong.

Don’t go to banks-keep it in your mattress. Stop using ATMs-put it in your mattress. Get a CCW permit and pack it always. Stop blaming cops-they only react AFTER the crime-they never prevent the crime!
