[UPDATE 10:07 a.m.] Structure Fire on Walnut Drive in Eureka
About 8:45 a.m., firefighters responded to the scene of a structure fire on Walnut Drive in Eureka. This is a two-alarm fire. An ambulance and backup have been called to the blaze.
“This is a long driveway off of Walnut..also be advised we’re out of water already,” reported the Incident Commander.
UPDATE 9:10 a.m.: The fire is controlled, according to the Incident Commander on the scanner. Our reporter Mark McKenna is on the scene. Below are some of his photos.
UPDATE 9:14 a.m.: McKenna reports this is a multi garage structure for an apartment complex. One person told him they lost everything they had in the garage.
UPDATE 9:21 a.m.: According to Mark McKenna, There were multiple incidents at the time of the initial call for the fire which delayed the second units’ response. The road is closed at Fern and Walnut. When firefighters arrived at the four-unit structure, there was heavy fire in one of the units. Due to long driveway, the second unit had to lay a long hose line to reach the flames.

In the video, it sounded like the fire department was using chain saws to gain access to the garage units.
Holes are cut to attack the fire from different angles and vent steam with heat.
Piles of junk and mutant treasure are fire hazards, glad people weren’t harmed.
Having less stuff is safer…
Tough to tell, but it looks like the garage was totally filled with furiture and junk. Hoarder spaces are fire hazards.
To be fair, elderly or others sometimes move from large homes to smaller apartments and have a hard time winnowing down their possessions.
Your junk others treasures.
They had a treasure fire.
This garage didn’t meet current fire standards. Common attic with no fire blocking is not acceptable. If this garage was to code, only one unit would have burned. Chain saw was attempt to cut hole on roof of involved unit. You cansee the lights flashing in the smoke. Great job protecting the neighbor’s little sheds!
I am wondering if there were vehicles of some kind in the garage?
Right on Kym. Our 95 year old mother is a prime example, stuff everywhere.
Glad no one was hurt..
