Art Showcase from HSU’s Permanent Collection Opens Tomorrow
This is a press release from Humboldt State University:
An exhibition showcasing the diversity in Humboldt State’s Permanent Art Collection opens at the Reese Bullen Gallery with a reception on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 4:30-6:30 p.m., and runs through Dec. 8. The reception and gallery are free and open to the public.
The exhibition highlights the broad array of media, forms, and styles in the collection. Pieces ranging from American optical art to Nigerian calabash bowls to Japanese umbrellas will be displayed. Drawings and prints previously in storage, newly framed for this event, will hang next to well-known paintings. Also featured will be a set of pots made by Reese Bullen, a founding professor of the Art Department.
This is a rare opportunity for the community to experience the wealth of the University’s collection. For art students in particular, this exhibit provides exposure to a wide variety of ideas and art-making approaches, which fosters a creative community and inspires a continuous cycle of innovation.
About the Reese Bullen Gallery:
The Reese Bullen Gallery was established in 1970. During his 20-year tenure from 1946-1966, Bullen developed and taught classes ranging from pottery to calligraphy, and nearly every medium in the spectrum. Credited as one of the forces behind Humboldt State becoming a prominent arts college, Bullen brought the first major art festival to campus when he convinced Bay Area artists to display in 1947.
The gallery is located in the HSU Art Building, at the intersection of B Street and Laurel Drive, located directly across from the Van Duzer Theatre. The gallery is open Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday between the hours of 12-5 p.m., Thursday 12-7 p.m., Friday 12-5 p.m., and Saturday 10-2 p.m., with free admission to exhibits and events.

I got hung at the Reese.
Not to sound negative but if a college needs to publish that they are diverse frequently, maybe they have a bit of a problem…. just saying.
You forgot to tell us how having to live on the same street/continent/planet with persons whose skin color frightens you is the actual equivalent of literal “genocide.”
