Just before 2 p.m. a logging company reportedly dropped a tree in the Fruitland Ridge area that took out a PG&E line. The person who provided the photo of the downed line said this is behind the Transfer Station on Dyerville Loop.

According to PG&E, about 1155 customers are without power. Those without power stretch from Redcrest to Phillipsville and from Salmon Creek on the west side all the way east to the main stem of the Eel River.

UPDATE 3:20 p.m.: PG&E crews are now on scene assessing the damage.

UPDATE 4:30 p.m.: Some customers have had their power restored–most of those were in or north of Myers Flat. Now about 759 customers are without power.

UPDATE 4:36 p.m.: According to PG&E only about 360 customers are without power at this point.

Here’s a map of the affected area from PG&E. outage map of PG&E

UPDATE 5:10 p.m.: Power has been restored to all but 194 customers, according to PG&E. These customers are all in the McCann/Fruitland Ridge area.

Power still out near 4corners on Fruitland. I’m not surprised that this happened. The Family Tree crews that have been working their way up Elk Creek Rd have been taking out really big trees, working fast, and leaving a big mess behind them. I’ve never seen so many big trees taken out, and left so haphazardly.

Can somebody who’s smarterer than me explain how they restore power back to customers in chunks rather than kaboom reconnected. ?

They were able to back feed all the customers below the substation while working on the down wire in the grid above the substation. The line was snapped at a very high pole and dropped into a steep, brushy ravine. They had to raise and restretch the wire and then reattach it back to the pole. The power was restored to the ridge at 7 PM.

Cold? No power? Dark house?
You thank a inbred Logger who is too dumb to spot a power line!

You can also thank the “inbred Logger” for the wood that built your home and possibly even the chair and table where your dumb ass sits.

I must say though. That trees top makes it look like 80′ tall tops. Not a relatively big tree by any means.

Accidents happen. Good thing it wasn’t summertime.

Seems like power goes out more than it used to.

But not for as long as it used to (5 days at a time)
