[UPDATE Friday] Vehicle Over the Side and Overturned North of Weott on 101

Traffic Collision Car AccidentAt approximately 4:22 p.m., a truck went over the embankment of Hwy 101 and overturned between Weott and the Dyerville Overlook. There is one patient with moderate to minor injuries, according to the scanner.

UPDATE 5:27 p.m.: CHP is now calling this a Major Injury accident.

UPDATE Friday:
From Peter Lawsky, Chief of the Volunteer Telegraph Ridge Fire Department:

We were first on scene. We saw the fairly new pick up leave 101 and go down an embankment where it rolled over. The driver was alone, a young woman, who was temporarily trapped in the upside down vehicle. I have a fire radio and immediately called for a full response (ambulance, CHP & Fire) with extrication gear. With the help of other people who stopped, including three Hispanic men, who, with limited english language skills, were extremely helpful and went right to her aid; we were able to free her from the wreck, and canceled extrication. State Parks personal arrived first with an EMT, who was great in helping the badly injured woman. The victim had major facial injuries, but no visible injuries to other parts of her body. CAL Fire arrived with two engines, along with CHP and the ambulance. After seeing that the victim was in good hands and giving our report to the CHP, we left. She was going to be transported to a hospital where, I expect she will be flown to a trauma center . She will probably need plastic surgery and will be a long time recovering.

Many thanks to all the emergency personal who responded, especially the female EMT from State Parks.

I would have written this last night, but when we got home, our department was called out for another incident.

This is Jessica, I want to thank all of the people who saved my life that day. I have a vivid memory of a kind woman who was present and I hope to have the opportunity to thank her in person one day. Also, thank you to the Hispanic gentleman who assisted me in getting out of the truck. Thank you Kym, for bringing awareness and recognition to these every day heroes!
