Linda Stickels: ‘Always…a kind word or dazzling smile for everyone

This section includes both obituaries and memories. Honoring our loved ones who have died does not end immediately after their passing. We recognize that… so we’re extending our obituary section to include individuals who may have left a long time ago. If you want to remember someone who is gone, either recently or longer ago, please send a photo and a few sentences to [email protected]. Tell us why you would like to honor the person–is it their birthday, the date of their passing or some other date of significance to you.

Linda StickelsIt is with great sadness that the family of Linda Stickels announce her passing. Linda Anne (Tredway) Stickels was born on September 1, 1947 in Fort Bragg, California and passed away on October 10, 2017 at the age of 70 at her home in Granite Bay, California. Linda, born to Jack and Virginia (Keith) Tredway, grew up in the close knit community of Leggett. She had a good life with her four siblings and spent hours working in her parents general store, fishing with her grandpa, hunting with her parents and siblings, and swimming in the Eel River. It was during her childhood that she was introduced to her love of Jesus by her grandma, Nan. Linda attended the little country school in Leggett where she participated in cheerleading and graduated from Leggett Valley High School in 1965. After graduating from high school, she lived and worked in Germany with her Uncle Austin Tredway (USAF officer) for a year. From there she moved to San Francisco and attended Heald Business College. She met her husband, Michael Stickels, while visiting her home in Leggett. They married in 1971 and moved to Redway where they had two sons, Matt and Monty. During her time in Redway, Linda was very involved with Weott Christian Church and took great joy in helping to raise her granddaughter, Lauren. She also worked at the Benbow Inn as a waitress for 17 years. After the boys were raised, Linda moved to Granite Bay, California where she became very active in Bayside Church. Linda was the kind of person who remembered every birthday or special event with a thoughtful card or phone call. She always had a kind word or dazzling smile for everyone she came into contact with. Linda will always be remembered as a loving mother, a cherished Grammie, and a great friend to many.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents Jack and Virginia Tredway, brother MIchael Tredway, and husband Michael Stickels. She is survived by her two sons, Matt Stickels and Monty Stickels along with her stepson, Michael Wenzel. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Laura Stickels (Monty) and her beloved grandchildren, Lauren (Stickels) Ammer and husband, Trent; Rebecca and Rachel Stickels; and Michael and Max Stickels. She is also survived by her brother Larry Tredway and wife Kristine, her sister Kerry Roper and husband Brad, and brother John Tredway, along with many other cherished nieces and nephews. Additionally, she is survived by special family friends, Bonnie Stickels and Patty Ely and her sons. A celebration of Linda’s life will be held on Sunday, November 12th at 1:00 P.M. at the Granite Bay Golf Club located at 9600 Golf Club Drive in Granite Bay, California. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bayside Church Children’s or Women’s Ministries in memory of Linda Stickels at P.O. Box 2336, Granite Bay, California 95746.

Mike & Linda were hard working people who understood sacrifice and commitment. Linda was a nice lady and dedicated mom who I’m sure lost more than a couple of nights sleep raising Matt & Monty. But they raised sons they could be proud of. One is second generation CHP and the other career military. Boys I’m sorry for your loss. I’m guessing our father’s are hanging around some coffee shop in the next life telling cop stories, talking about the remaining few from their graduating class at the academy and smoking cigarettes. They probably didn’t make sainthood but I think your Mom very well may have.

I am saddened to learn of Linda’s passing. We were good friends in high school; Linda at Leggett and me at Laytonville. We visited often, especially after Linda got her car, a pretty blue and white ’56 Chevy. She was so nice and so pretty. We lost track of one another for years until exchanging some messages through Classmates. Matt, Monty, John and Kerry, I am so sorry for your losses, your mom and your dad, your sister.

Linda was a great woman, and a very loving Christian lady. If all people named Christian were like her there would be no name calling about people of the faith. She lived with Christ and died with him and will reside forever in the New Jerusalem with all the saints of God. Always drinking from that river that never runs dry.
where there is neither day or night for God our father is the light and Jesus is the lamp.

Sorry to hear about Linda. She was my neighbor for several years, and was always friendly, thoughtful, ready to help. Deepest sympathy to her family: I am sure they will cherish many wonderful memories.
