AT&T Says Service Restored to Customers Last Night

AT&T_2016 logoAccording to AT&T spokesperson, Steven J Ramirez, “Service was restored last night for customers in the Arcata and Garberville areas after a fiber cut yesterday evening.”

Around 5 p.m., yesterday, readers began reporting outages among many AT&T, Frontier, and Verizon customers. Last night Ramirez told us, “Due to a fiber cut, a limited number of customers in the Arcata and Garberville areas may be experiencing issues with their wireless and wireline services. 911 service was not impacted by this outage. Technicians are on site and working as quickly as possible to resolve the issue.”

While AT&T is telling us that the Arcata and Garberville areas are the only ones affected, our readers told us—and the Lost Coast Outpost said that their readers told them—that there were also outages in Eureka.

AT&T has not said where, when, and why the fiber cut occurred.

TRY CALLING WITHOUT A WORKING PHONE! THIS HAPPENS ALL TO OFTEN, EVERY TIME IT RAINS, YOUR PHONE CO. HAS A CONTRACT WITH YOU TO TO PROVIDE SERVICE FOR THE MONTH OR BETWEEN BILLING CYCLES, THE PHONE CO. THINKS THERE SERVICE IS PROVIDED DAILY, WHEN YOUR PHONE GOES OUT WITH HOLD YOUR MONTHLY BILL AND JUST MAYBE WE CAN GET DECENT PHONE SERVICE, I HAVE A LANDLINE AND THERE WAS NO 911 WHILE THE PHONE WAS OUT, IF YOU HAVE HEART TROUBLE OR FALL YOUR PHONE PROVIDER DOESNT CARE. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE SOMEBODY TO TAKE YOUR PLACE ON THEIR BILLING CYCLE.

Just for your benefit, writing so much content in all caps makes it too unpleasant to read. So I didn’t.

Why do any businesses or government offices use any services that rely on ATT’s awful, non-redundant internet? It’s ridiculous.

This is why people have spent years protesting corporate control and lack of a true free market. This is what happens. Theyre spending as little as posdible on actual customer services while paying their ceo a ton (that they report that is, its probably double) and cutting every corner possible to make a buck.
In the 80’s in socal there were multiple phone companies which created healthy competition and helped keep prices down. Now we have 10 companies that own everything in the whole world and the consumer loses big time.
We’ve all been warned for a long time, (seattle 99 being the big yell) and now everyone can see their control and lack of care, dead people are just part of doing business, these big companies could care less.

Think about it, a man can run over and kill a protester in the street or slash simeones throat on a public transport train over political dogma, and not be called a terrorist or arrested as such.
If you go to pennsylvania and take pictures of a factory farm you will be arrested and charged as a terrorist with patriot act rules applied, no lawyer, no open court, no civil rights. Then you’ll be thrown in solitary for years. I kid you not, please read about it. That is the power bigbiz has.

Im sure there was some backroom deal that got at&t the deal to get 5.7$ million TAX DOLLARS for this line with the primise of it never failing. Is this number 6 or 7 of it goin down???
What idiot signed up AT&T for this deal esp when they have the worst cel recep on the county? How do we find that person?
The only way to get internet from att is to pay for a landline, and then in neighborhoods like mine at&t will not open any new internet accounts so theres literally no way to even purchase internet in our neighborhood now as at&t monopolized. And wont add new accounts! What company does that, its craxy. This is a few miles east of eureka in a populated area. Frontiers charging 70-80/month for a single landline in rural areas.
Theyrr even worse.

“2009, Stephenson’s compensation as CEO of AT&T totaled $20,240,457, including a base salary of $1,450,000, a cash bonus of $5,850,000, options grants worth $75,834, stock grants worth $11,999,991, and other compensation totaling $864,632.”

Randall L. Stephenson’s 2015 pay is broken down as follows:

A $1.74 million USD salary. This salary is significantly more than the average public executive’s salary and significantly more than the salary of other executives at At&T.
$14.6 million USD in restricted stock awards. This is significantly more than the value of the average public executive’s restricted stock awards and significantly more than the value of the average At&T executive’s restricted stock awards.
$553,095 USD in other compensation. This is significantly more than the average public executive’s other compensation and more than the other compensation of other executives at AT&T.

So how much is $16.9 million USD?

Randall L. Stephenson made $16.9 million USD in 2015 or $1930 an hour, $32 a minute, and $0.54 a second.
This is 42 times the president’s salary and 319 times the median US household income.

There was no service in Miranda either, second time this month.Im calling BULLSHIT! ATT is exceptionally irresponsible if all it takes is one line cut to shut down city’s and towns, they were supposed to make it a redundant system 2 yeas ago. They are a very rich company, it’s time they took responsibility for what they provide, it could cost lives. After what happened last time I’d expect cal fire, the Leo’s,supervisors of city’s and even the governor to be putting huge pressure on ATT,THEY PUT WAY TO MANY PEOPLE AT RISK WITH THEIR SINGLE FIBER OPTIC!!!!

I’m contemplating a change of carrier. A phone with Verizon was working just fine in the next room while my AT&T service was down…
And I can’t say I’m satisfied with losing my phone every time there is a fire or accident along US 101 – which seems to be the pattern. I maintain a TracFone as back up (works to find my nice one) but I’m paying for service that I don’t receive, so maybe I need to change carriers.

Good luck with that. Its frontier or AT&T. Thats the big problem.

You, and we all, ought to call the better biz bureau just to have some public record of it.

Amusing. Not really. Yesterday, I received my monthly bill from them. The amount, I really won’t gripe about, but the other pieces of paper in the envelope. . . . . One ad for DirectTV (we have Dish and plan to stay with them, even if it’s because we are just stubborn), Internet (what the H*** do they think I am using at this moment and paying for with this bill.

All this extra trash for nothing. Besides, at least we had our TV via Dish during the outage. We knew what was going on in the world.

If we hadn’t been a customer of theirs for over 40 years, we’d drop it tomorrow, but at our ages, I’d probably try sending emails via the TV and throw the TV out the window (the big one in the living room)when I couldn’t find facebook on it.

FYI: US Cellular has been out all night and in-and-out this am in Potter Valley and parts of Willits. Texts work more reliably, for some reason, but not consistently. Now 11:05 am.

I tried to obtain Suddenlink internet back in August. First tech came out, said I had “old cable”, he would request “new cable” be installed. Two more techs came out at one week intervals, said, that the cable was going to be laid on would be laid on Sept. 4. I pointed out that was Labor Day, they insisted the cable would be laid on Labor Day. It wasn’t. Ten days later another tech came out, wandered around my yard, asked, where is the new cable, then left. I called customer service again, and a nice young man, Daniel, put me on hold while he “wrote an email to the supervisor” I was on hold for 17 minutes. This past Monday, curious as to what the newest excuse would be, I rang customer service. I was told that the cable had been installed and that I had been notified. (Um, no, I had not been notified, if I was, why would I be calling) and that I would have service for $89 per month, PLUS $300 for the cable installation. I pointed out I signed up under a summer special of $29 per month and free installation. I was told that as I did not obtain service before the offer expired, I would have to pay the new price. I cancelled the order. So some of us are stuck with ATT.

I had a similar unpleasant experience with Suddenlink. I currently have AT&T (Direct TV) and they have terrible customer service. Honestly they both suck!

I’m in Fortuna and my internet was down till late last night. My phone was also out for anything besides a local call. ATT said after the last couple of times this wouldn’t happen again. I’m done with them.
