Yesterday, not long before noon, a fire broke out across the river from the town of Mad River on the west flank of South Fork Mountain about 4000 feet due east of the Six Rivers Forest Service Compound.

According to the Northern California Geographic Coordination Center, as of 8:30 this morning, 85 acres are on fire and the blaze is only 25% contained. However, the forward spread of the fire has been stopped. The crews are continuing to improve containment lines today. They will be carefully watching as a threat remains to 138 kV Transmission lines.

According to witnesses, several structures were lost before the crews arrived on the scene. At this point, there hasn’t been an official release about the structures affected. We’ll update when more information is available.

I am beginning to think that many of those who are posting about the crops, both pro and con, have been walking in the smoke from said crops. Comments like that of Chuck’s are appropriate. The others are childish.
