Man Allegedly Driving VW Drunk Hits Dodge Ram Head On Receives Major Injuries
This is a press release from the California Highway Patrol. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:
P-1 (Johnston) was driving his VW Toureg at a high rate of speed, s/b Lower Mad River Rd s/of the Ruth Campground, and entering a curve in the road. P-2 (Trosky) was approaching the same curve from the opposite direction in his Dodge Ram 2500, at approximately 40 mph. The VW entered the curve and P-1 drove the vehicle into the opposing lane in an attempt to maintain the roadway. The VW came upon the Dodge Ram 2500 and both vehicles hit head on, ultimately coming to rest within the lanes. P-1 received major injuries as a result of the collision and was subsequently flown by air ambulance to Mercy Medical center in Redding. P-2 and his passenger received minor and moderate injuries respectively and were transported by ground ambulance to Redwood Hospital in Fortuna.
P-1 (Johnston) was arrested for felony DUI causing injuries and was subsequently released to the care of the hospital due to his injuries.
The accident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m.
