Press release from the Department of Fish and Wildlife:

On October 7, 2017 Wildlife Officers from The California Department of Fish and Wildlife responded to a report of an injured deer near Ferndale. With the help of concerned citizens, Wildlife Officers discovered two young of the year deer fawns that had been injured near Centerville Beach. One of the fawns was deceased. The second fawn was alive but gravely injured. The living deer sustained a traumatic injury to the head that rendered it unable to move. Due to the grave injuries it sustained, the second deer was euthanized humanely. Wildlife Officers recovered evidence and confirmed the deer fawns were killed or injured illegally. The Department of Fish and Wildlife asks anyone who has information regarding this crime or other poaching incidents to contact Wildlife Officer Matt Wells (707) 445-6493 or use the statewide poaching tip hotline (CALTIP) at 1 (888) 334-2258.

  • Makes me sick to read this.
What a sadistic coward, I’d like to catch him in the act and punish him the same way

    • Yikes, dude. I sure hope you’re vegan, never wear leather, use only live rat traps and don’t own a cat.

      • what does that have to do with torturing baby animals. you better hope you educated your kids, it seems to be a local problem. we had a fawn killer in the north. he luckily stopped. hopefully the locals don’t repeat the 80s, I have read about the disturbing shit that went on here and it all starts with this activity.

        • Do you know how many baby rats have to die to insure your local super market has produce? Hundreds or thousands a month at least. All I’m saying is don’t wish death upon human beings so easily. Have some dang perspective.

          • were the baby rats killed for pleasure? maybe try some perspective. do you think the methhead in Fieldbrook that tortured and killed women in his stump started with women? if a rat comes in my garage it runs a high risk of running into one of many in-baited snap traps and I feel bad every time I get one.

      • So called ‘humans’ who behave this way don’t need to be here. This has nothing to do with eating meat or using animal products.

  • fucking methnecks.

  • Omg this is so horrible! 🙁
Makes me sick someone could be so horrible to babys.
Yes some people consider them pests and a nuisance but that is no excuse to hurt babys!! 🙁
I feel sick now, I hope they catch the person responsible!!
    Poor poor baby’s. :'(

    • Humans are the biggest pests and nuisances to this planet. Deer and especially fawns are such beautiful, graceful, peaceful creatures. If this was done by humans and not a natural predator it is really disturbing to me. Glad the remaining one was put out of his misery before he had to suffer any more.

  • After we`re extinct or at best a few miserable bands eking out an existence in the ruins of our “civilization”; all those things we so revile and consider beneath us will be thriving. Snakes, scorpions, spiders, rats, coyotes and so on — as well as deer, foxes and bears, will all be going happily about their lives. And we humans will be long gone…. Either nuclear war; climate change or the exhaustion of the fossil fuels on which everything we have and do is dependent.

    • the unfortunate part is the all of the fukashima’s that will occur without human operators there operating the cooling system. there are thousands worldwide and all of them will high temp, rupture and spew until they melt deep into the ground, like Chernobyl which is currently still melting its way thru bedrock as of today. it looks like we will end everything for a long time.

    • What does that have to do with meatheads or growers hurting baby animals. They are just sick.

  • Sick. Sick individual(s) who did this. SMH. Reminder of the callous coward that killed the male Zebra for fun. Sick individuals live among us. Peaceful animals have no defense. RIP.

  • Whoever committed this act has some gravely serious issues that need to be addressed right away.

  • I hope this was instead an inadvertent traffic accident, the drivers were perhaps too horrified to deal with the injured deer and called it in out of conscience.
I don’t read it that they have any convincing proof that it was intentional, if it was, I hope somebody rats them out.

  • Future Hannible Lector in our midst

  • I don’t have the heart to really read this article but I get the gist of it [edit] I pray that the officers of Fish and Game Wildlife bust whomever done this ,so sad for the baby deer.rotten sick bastids .

  • DID YOU SEE THE FANGS ON THOSE FAWNS? HIGHLY DANGEROUS POISONOUS CREATURES, IM SUPRIZED THAN THOSE BRAVE OFFICERS EVEN WENT NEAR THOSE NEW BORN FAWNS. YOU CAN HOLLER SCREAM AN YELL BUT THIS IS A FACT, NOT JUST FAWNS OTHER CREATURES OF THE WILD ARE TORTURED AND DOMESTIC ANIMALS AS WELL. BY MENTALLY CRUEL INDIVIDUALS, WHO ARE SPAWNED BY POVERTY, OR SO THEY CLAIM, POOR BUNKY HAD A TOUGH LIFE. MAYBE WE CAN FORGIVE HIM OR HER IF THEY PROMISE NOT TO DO IT AGAIN. YEAH READ BETWEEN THE LINES.
