HCSO Holding Inmate Re-entry Fair October 23 and 24
This is a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce the next installment of our Re-entry Fair! This event will occur October 23rd and 24th in the Humboldt County Correctional Facility in Eureka. The Re-entry Fair is a two day event committed to supporting re-entry concerns encountered by the inmates of the Humboldt County Correctional Facility, in which service providers and employers are brought directly into the housing areas of the incarcerated population.
October 23rd will be our Service Provider Day, when local community service providers will come in and assist the currently incarcerated with connecting them to resources. Some confirmed service providers include: Arcata House Partnership, CalFresh, Eureka Rescue Mission, Betty Chinn Day Center, local Tribal Services, College of the Redwoods, Humboldt Recovery Center, Crossroads, Redwood Teen Challenge, North Coast Rape Crisis Team, Healthy Moms, Food for People, and many more.
October 24th will be our Employer Day, when local employers will provide information about their businesses and discuss potential employment opportunities available to the incarcerated upon their release. Employers confirmed include those from the retail, food service and labor industries. Representatives from some of our local employment agencies will also attend.
Employers and program representatives will have the opportunity to meet directly with inmates and provide them with informational materials on their services. This will be the 3rd Re-entry Fair the Sheriff’s Office has hosted in the past two years. Our plan is to host this event twice a year. The Sheriff’s Office goal is to reduce recidivism within our community, and to prepare the individuals leaving our facility for success upon release. We are in a pivotal time for developing reentry services, and we are excited to continue efforts to ensure a well-planned re-entry for all.
