Doors Guitarist Robby Krieger to Headline Benefit for Mateel Community Center

This is a press release from the Mateel:

The Mateel Community Center in Redway, CA has served as the social and cultural hub of the Southern Humboldt community for over 3 decades. And now they need our help. In response, Fraktal Productions and Mateel Forever has created an evening of Cannabis, Dance, and Rock ‘n’ Roll to raise Funds, Awareness, and Spirits on Thursday Nov 9, 2017 at 6pm, at the Mateel Community Center in Redway, CA. The evening will include dinner, a Cannabis Legalization and Awareness Forum and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Doors guitarist Robby Krieger performing the music of The Doors, followed by Humboldt’s own Cold Blue Water. DJ Dragonfly and DJ Marjo Lak end the night with a celebratory dance party. Support your local community while rocking the night away!

The Mateel Community Center has recently fallen on hard times and is seeking the community’s support in keeping their doors open. At an open forum last week, they shared that, after losing $140,000 on Reggae on the River 2017, they are in dire straits. A 501-c3 non-profit, the Center offers diverse art, social service, educational, and youth programming that is vital to our rural community. From hosting International music superstars and political forums, to local theatre and dance performances, The Mateel keeps our local community vibrant. Our community center is what we make it- and support for our local institutions has never been more crucial. Now is your chance to make a difference. Donations for the cause will be accepted and MCC Lifetime Memberships ($1000) will be available at the event.

For North Coast Doors fans, this event is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitarist Robby Krieger is the only living member of the seminal rock band the Doors still performing today. Rolling Stone Magazine called him one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Krieger wrote the Doors’ hits “Love Me Two Times,” “Touch Me,” and “Love Her Madly” and “Light My Fire.” The Robby Krieger Band includes an all star cast of top notch musicians including bassist Phil Chen (Jeff Beck), Ty Dennis on drums, and Waylon Krieger on vocals. A limited number of special VIP meet and greet tickets are available. This is your chance to meet a true rock legend.

The show also features Cold Blue Water, one of Humboldt’s premiere Blues, Rock, Jazz, and Jam Band, blending classic covers with well-crafted originals and delivering a powerful punch of authenticity to the stage. Late night will be taken over by DJ Marjo Lak (Butter Music Brazil/Deep Groove Society) and special guest DJ DRAGONFLY. DJ Marjo Lak is fresh off of her summer tour in Italy and playing many of the Summer Festivals in US, including Enchanted Forest, Northern Nights and the Oregon Eclipse Gathering. DJ DRAGONFLY is known for his high energetic music, playing trap-hoppy vibes, chillbass and sweetly glitchy groove influenced by sitars, ouds, sarangis, and percussion.

Over dinner (6-8pm), the ICFA (International Cannabis Farmers Association) will host a Cannabis Legalization and Awareness Forum and Q&A about the new legislation coming in 2018. Legal Cannabis is almost upon us and being up to date with the most current laws, strategies, and industry trends is crucial to the livelihood of all in the North Coast Region. A panel of Cannabis Insiders will discuss the most current information concerning the state of Cannabis in Northern California.

There will be a Silent Auction, Vendors and a 215 area providing free tasters for valid 215 cardholders.

I remember the Doors minus Morrison played the Mattel once.
Erik Burdon has played.
All very good shows.

“… the only living member of… the Doors… still performing today.” Is there a member performing who is not living? Haha, press release, i know. Just funny.
Hope you get a good turnout and make lots of money!

The drummer of Doors was John Densmore, he is alive but apparently not performing live anymore. The two surviving members of the Doors are in their 70’s.

Good luck! Sounds like good music. But all this cannabis stuff I am sick sick sick of it. Special insiders will blow smoke up your ass and there will be 215 samples? Look- with this fake legalization if you are family-sized then you are toast. And our county is toast. Please stop spreading false hope. And the sight of young healthy people pretending that they are sick and 215? Shameful bullshit. Wish the best for the Mateel regardless of this event!
