[UPDATE 2:13 p.m.: Ridgewood School No Longer on Lockdown] Armed Subject Threatening Suicide; Two Roads Closed

Breaking news graphicThe Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office has an armed subject threatening suicide in a home on the 6100 block of Avalon Drive in the outskirts of Eureka, a couple blocks from the Ridgewood Elementary School, according to information coming over the scanner about 1:15 p.m.

Avalon Drive and Ridgewood Drive are being closed.

UPDATE 1:30 p.m.: Ridgewood School is on lockdown, according to scanner traffic.

UPDATE 1:36 p.m.: Officers are talking to the suspect and are saying that the situation is no longer an emergency.

UPDATE 1:43 p.m.: The school is no longer on lockdown.

UPDATE 2:13 p.m.: The roads are open.

  • I want to commend Ridgewood School for the calm and safe environment they created for the kids until the lockdown was lifted. Hope this man gets the help he needs. My heart goes out to him and how alone and lost he must feel right now.
