Coffee With a Cop in SoHum

Press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

coffee with a cop image from govOn Monday, September 18, deputies from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and community members will come together in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues, build relationships, and drink coffee.

All community members are invited to attend. The event begins at 10:00 a.m. on September 18th at Amillia’s Restaurant, 443 Melville Road, Garberville. Please contact Sgt. Jesse Taylor with questions: 707-923-2761, [email protected].

Coffee with a Cop provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the department’s work in southern Humboldt neighborhoods.

The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community, and some community members may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street. Coffee with a Cop breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction.

We hope that community members will feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know our officers,” said Sheriff Honsal. “These interactions are the foundation of community partnerships.”

Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are being held across the County, as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.

The program aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships between police officers and community members one cup of coffee at a time.

I didn’t know Amelia’s made donuts. All dumb jokes aside this sounds like a good idea. Thank you HCSO.

People who are concerned are at work 10am on a Monday. Dopers who don’t care sleep until 11. Neat concept though.

Most of Garberville doesn’t even open until after 10 except for the school and the gas stations. Who are you kidding?

I find that eureka small businesses open much later than garbervilles. For what it’s worth. Gville opens at 8ish. Eureka and Arcata more about 10ish.

Maybe the Marijuana Caliphate will counter this with Candy With The Caliphate and hand out spiked saltwater taffy?

In my opinion, the cop should be kicking in doors Dirty Harry style and cutting plants, instead of drinking coffee.

Then again, if they held an anti marijuana rally and an angry mob formed with pitchforks and torches, the frenzy of anti marijuana energy could be harmful to those evil plants the terror groupings worship.

Well, since nothing good ever happens in Goobsterdam after dark, and since growers stay up all night and take drugs, we don’t see too much action on the streets of SoHum until Lunchtime!

Even those of us who staff the hospitals on the North Coast, are unable to attend Monday morning meetings with LEO’s. If they have this on Friday at the Farmer’s market, I would be happy to come over and say hi to Lt. Jesse!

Monday 1000 at Amalias? Seniors only!

I do like the sound of an Anti-Cannabis rally, however!

Anti dope rallies are needed to clean the mess of the marijuana caliphate.

Too many jihadi dope growers going broke, waging war on nature, and trafficking in slaves.

Why only coffee with a cop, is it because you could go to the bar any night of the week and have a beer with a cop? Down in Mendocino the bars are always full of half drunk sheriff’s and city cops busy drinking beer and picking up on the town bimbos, seems the cops know most of the meth dealin women in Mendo on a first name basis, but they especially seem to know them late night in the bars around closing time, always offering them a ride home, interesting that the deputies are not drug tested when most of them seem to be closet tweaker and they hang out with and hit on all the tweeker hookers…..
