Law Enforcement Still Searching for White Van Connected to Attempted Abduction of a 12-Year-Old

Hoopa Tribal Police and Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies are still searching for a white van with a black bra and a yellow thumbs up sign in a blue circle on the driver’s side rear window in the Hoopa area. The van is associated with the attempted abduction of a 12-year-old girl near Hwy 96.

Allegedly, on Sunday, an older man with a long gray braid and a full beard chased the young girl who fled back to her family.

According to Lt. Dennis Young of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, there have been several sightings since Sunday. “The van has been seen by residents,” he said. “But no one has been able to get a plate yet.” He asks that anyone who sees the van attempt to get a license plate number as that will enable law enforcement to track the owner down.

Young said that both Tribal Police and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office are being vigilant in the area. “We’re going around patrolling, trying to see the van.”

If you have any information, please contact either the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at (530) 625-4202 or the Hoopa Tribal Police at (530) 625-4202.
