The Humboldt County Library Is Hosting a Series of Events in September for Library Card Sign-Up Month

This is a press release from the Humboldt County Library:

Throughout the month of September, the Eureka Library will be hosting a variety of superhero-themed activities and events to recognize Library Card Sign-Up Month.

Beginning Sept. 1, limited edition Teen Titan library cards will be available at libraries throughout Humboldt County. As always, your first library card is free, and replacement cards are $4.

On Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. the Library will hold the regularly scheduled Family Fun Night, this month with a fun superhero twist. Attendees can listen to superhero stories, then join in on a variety of activities in order to transform into a superhero themselves – decorate a mask, make a cape and participate in active play to test out their new superhero gear. Activities are recommended for children ages 2-12.

Come find the Library at the North Country Fair at the Arcata Plaza from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16! You can sign up for a library card, learn more about the cool things the Library does or take a break from the fair with a book.

At the Library, on Saturday, Sept. 23, there will be a showing of Wonder Woman at 1 p.m. Watch as Diana, Princess of the Amazons, fights to end the “war to end all wars.” The movie is open to all ages, however, please note the movie’s PG-13 rating.

In partnership with C.A.P.E (Community Access Project for Eureka), the Library will be hosting Superhero Family Yoga on two dates: Wednesday, Sept. 27 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 30 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Dress up as a superhero and participate in a superhero themed yoga class! Reservations are required and can be made by calling 707-269-1915.

While all of these programs are open to all members of the community, whether or not one has a library card, signing up for a card not only lets you to borrow books and audio visual materials to take home, but supports the library in ways which allow us to better serve you. Libraries have evolved from the traditional idea of just books to offer a large amount of resources to the community. In addition to print books, the library has a variety of e-books and online materials, a large number of programs aimed at everyone from children to adults, computer access and public Wi-Fi. All services and programs that the Library offers are free to patrons. Studies have found that when children have access to public libraries, it promotes early literacy, leads to better reading scores, and improves critical thinking skills. On average, for every $1 in funding that libraries receive, they provide an equivalent of $5 in services to the community.

All events are free to attend. The library’s programs and services are accessible to persons with disabilities; please let us know if you require assistance. The Humboldt County Library is located at 1313 Third St. in Eureka. For further information, call 707-269-1915 or visit our website at www.humlib.org.

Steve, the bums do in the garberville library and get away with it. Along with doing drugs in the bathroom.
