The Helena Fire, which began August 30, continues to threaten Junction City and several other small communities in Trinity County. Over 2000 people were evacuated and 140 structures destroyed or damaged. Hwy 299 continues to be closed with no estimated time for reopening.
Yesterday, fire crews laid down some containment lines–just 6% of the fire has those (the black lines in the map below show where they are located.)A Wildland Fire Module is scheduled to begin staffing the Fork Fire today.
Last night, the aircraft that carries the infrared camera was unable to fly and the maps were not able to be updated as fully as management teams would normally prefer. [UPDATE 11:51 a.m.: For the Helena, 7440 Acres, 6% Containment]
Hot weather continues to beat down across the area. The Weather Service issued an Excessive Heat Warning which is expected to last until 10 p.m. today. According to InciWeb, “the high temperatures, very dry conditions and terrain influenced winds will continue to drive fire behavior.”

I hope this map isn’t accurate. It shows heat (spot fire) well west of the main body. A lot of N/NW winds yesterday afternoon.
I had the same concerns when I looked at it this morning. I haven’t however learned of any other reference to it.
Heres how you can donate with donation needs and drop off locales in humboldt. Thanks pay it forward group for organizing this!
