Lightning Cell Strikes the North Coast

According to the National Weather Service, approximately 30 cloud-to-ground lightning strikes were detected in Del Norte and Humboldt overnight.

Starting around 5:20 a.m., according to Bonnie Mullaney, who is staying in the area, lightning began flashing in the sky around Trinidad. As of 6:13 a.m., she said, “It’s not letting up.”

Latest Lightning Strikes map shows there have been multiple strikes in the area between McKinleyville and Orick.

The National Weather Service would like to know “if you’ve seen any hail early this morning.”

I was hoping that was lightening and not an ICBM overflying.

4:00 in Arcata. Must have struck right near my house because it sounded like a bomb or explosion and shook the house. Pup’s been upset ever since. Haven’t had a good one like that for a while.
