Press release from the Eureka Police Department:

On August 1, 2017 at approximately 8:14 p.m., officers with the Eureka Police Department responded to the alley behind a gas station at the 1300 block of 5th Street for a report of shots fired. Once on scene, officers located a male subject down in the alley with gunshot wounds to his torso. The male was unresponsive and medical personnel were summoned to the scene. The male subject was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The male’s identity will be released once the next of kin has been notified.

The shooter was identified as a uniformed on duty armed security guard for a local security company. There were multiple eye witnesses to the incident who cooperated with investigators and provided consistent statements. The investigation suggests that the security guard was confronted by the male subject in the alley as the guard was trying to exit his vehicle. A confrontation took place and the male subject brandished a knife and attempted to stab the security guard. The security guard fired his weapon ending the assault.

There have been no arrests made at this point as this is an ongoing investigation. The Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office has been briefed on the investigation. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Detective Bise at 441-4109.

Tried to stab a uniformed security guard? Not a good idea. At least this wasn’t another shooting that shouldn’t of happened….

At least there is one less desperate knife wielding piece of shit in Eureka. Thankfully he confronted someone who could defend themselves instead of a mother with kids or someone’s grandma.

This was my first thought. What if it had been one of the children from those apartments, maybe just going to the store for a treat? It could have been literally anybody, someone’s daughter, someone’s mother, but thank god it was a man who knew when and how to use a gun. Eureka needs a hero.

Holy, unless you meant the bullet wound which would be “holey”. “Wholly shit” would mean “entirely shit” or “totally shit” which still is applicable.

I used to work in an office next to the Shell on 5th, and parked just off the alley. It was infested, and I do mean infested, with aggressive “homeless” men. I never took the exit behind the Shell station, as the “poor unfortunates” would pound on my car, expose themselves, or stand in front of the car hoping to be hit and thus snag a big payday. The PD would clear them out periodically, but they would come back within a few hours. Think of it as a Eureka “No Go Zone”
