Eyeing Our Elk…

Photographer Lynn Harrington sends along these shots of a herd of elk she spotted near the school house south of Orick the other day.

Harrington writes:

The cows and sometimes the young bulls take turns babysitting, and give the other moms a rest. One to three will watch the babies and a few will stand guard at a distance. Here’s a babysitter with some of the calves and the next photo is one of the cows warning the photographer not to step any closer.

One of the main reasons I like backpacking on the Lost Coast so much, especially down by bear Harbor.
