California State Senator Mike McGuire Announces Run for Second Term

Press release from Senator McGuire:

McGuireToday, California State Senator Mike McGuire announced his intention to run for a second term representing Northern California’s Second Senate district. The district runs from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Oregon border, including all of Marin, Humboldt, Mendocino, Lake, Trinity and Del Norte Counties and a majority of Sonoma County.
“Good jobs, strong public schools, affordable health care, better and safer roads, a pristine coast and a strong rainy day fund – that’s what I’m focused on,” said Senator McGuire.
“But make no mistake,” Senator McGuire continued. “I’ll never back down when it comes to stopping the President and Congress from undoing years of economic and environmental progress here in California.”
That’s why Senator McGuire is going to the mat to stop initiatives coming out of Washington, D.C. that would restart offshore oil drilling, sell off our national parks to the highest bidder and take away health care for 3.2 million Californians.
In his first term, working with the Governor, Senator McGuire secured $900 million that saved career training, job skills and Future Farmers of America programs in local middle schools and high schools across the state – so that kids who don’t go to college can still get family-sustaining jobs.
With his leadership, in partnership with the Governor, California has the strongest rainy day fund in history – funding $2 billion more than the amount mandated by voters.
He cut through red tape to make sure tens of thousands of Northern California’s neediest kids – and hundreds of thousands more across the state – have access to nutritious food at school. He’s leading the way in tackling the homeless crisis in many of our communities by bringing in millions in funding for permanent housing, mental health and addiction services.
Senator McGuire led the charge when disaster struck and thousands of our neighbors were left homeless by some of the worst wildfires in our state’s history. His tireless work continues with the building of dozens of new homes in Lake County along with investing in vital community improvement projects with over $100 million for recovery and rebuilding.
Senator McGuire worked with agency leaders to secure more than $250 million to fix crumbling roads, highways, bridges and public transit in our district. These projects are making our roads safer, smoother and less congested. More is on the way in the years to come.
And, working with hundreds of our neighbors throughout Northern California and Assemblymember Jim Wood, Senator McGuire passed the most comprehensive cannabis regulation legislation in the nation – two decades after Proposition 215 legalized medical marijuana.
Senator McGuire is a third-generation Northern Californian, whose family farmed prunes and grapes in the Alexander Valley for nearly a half century. He and his wife Erika, a local elementary school principal, live in Healdsburg.
Raised by his mom and grandma, Mike worked his way through high school and college – attending Santa Rosa Junior College and graduating from Sonoma State University. He enjoyed a career in the radio and television industries.
He started serving as a school board member when he was 19 because he insisted on rebuilding dilapidated schools in his hometown. He went on to serve as a council member and mayor of Healdsburg and a Sonoma County supervisor. Senator McGuire was elected to the State Senate in 2014.
The primary election is June 5, 2018. The general election is November 6, 2018.

I’d much rather see him passing a bill using the national guard for chopping down every marijuana plant instead of the government sitting at the trim table.

Just have to watch and see.

Time to write Jeff sessions, it would be very easy to put together a convincing argument. He is chomping at the bit to engage that very idea.

Hi Veterans friend – Just FYI, Sen. McGuire is a co-author of the the Single Payer health care bill, SB 562, and voted for it in on the Senate Floor.

Amazing spin master. Sort of a ‘Me Tarzan. You Jane” philosopher. I would like to get rid of that California Fire Assessment Fee, have the California government ensure adequate numbers of physicians and nurses (Hello HSU shutting down nursing program) in rural areas, keep funding HS farming education opportunities, find a way to increase work opportunities outside of urban areas, or a dozen things a State Senator can actually achieve rather than hear him running on a platform of ‘Look at me- I hate Trump too.”

This politician is as bad as any greed grower or worse. The governments see no value in marijuana except for the dollars they feel they are missing out on. Endless greed, profiting off the backs of others has been what the green rush is all about. Disregarding that somewhere down the line the end user pays the price.

You certainlly hit THAT nail right on the head. I was having that conversation last night.
They jumped on the enviornmental issue because it is a largely unopposed way to levy huge fines. Not really about protecting anything or anyone. If it was they would seriously mandate very small grows only.
Oh well. It is always ALL about the money. I don’t know why I just can’t get used to that.

It is about who we can put in office that will get the most money for our area and being friendly and in the same party as the people in charge of everything that matters. Good practice to get as much as possible and a Republican in good standings can do that way better then Mark the Dem.

McGuire is a traitor to the U.S. Constitution. He violates state and federal law by supporting a “sanctuary state.” He should be run out of the state on a rail, along with Krazy Kamala and Boss Moonbeam. As long as these pro-mob rule, fascist, anti-American, socialist, pro-illegal immigration lunatics have the run of the state we will never save it.

Mark McGuire has not helped his constituents with ongoing problems. He voted for Hillary Clinton even after most of his constituents voted for Bernie. He allowed 2nd amendment bills taking away the rights of legal upright taxpaying citizens to lose their ability to purchase or restrict our 2nd amendment rights. He voted for the largest gas tax increase in the history of the State of California which is going to hurt every single person witha fixed income or the elderly. He has had 4 years to write a bill repealing the Fire Fee (Tax) which was passed illegally by his predecessors again hurting people on fixed income and the elderly. So what has Mark really done for the Northcoast. Not one damn thing that matters. He is in favor of following Governor Jerry Brown and his new taxing schemes. The one you won’t believe is the one the Democrats are keeping a big secret. They have met and are in the process of securing a bill which will allow both houses to pass taxes with only a majority vote instead of the 2/3 majority passed by taxpayers to keep these asshats from taxing everything they can think of. Mark McGuire is not your representative, he is Jerry Browns minion who will do whatever he is told to do by his party. We need to clean house on all Democrats and republicans who don’t want to look out for the best interests of “We The People”….There is more but this guy is not fit to run an outhouse!

President Richard Nixon launched the War on Drugs for one specific reason: to decimate his perceived political enemies—the anti-war left, and black people.

That’s according to an anecdote in a lengthy cover story for Harper’s, in which journalist Dan Baum recounts an interview he conducted with John Erlichman, a former Nixon staffer who was jailed for one year due to his involvement in the Watergate scandal. Unprompted, Erlichman confessed the true purpose of federal drug prohibition:

“You want to know what this was really all about?” he asked with the bluntness of a man who, after public disgrace and a stretch in federal prison, had little left to protect. “The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. You understand what I’m saying? We knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did.”

The dastardly plan failed only in the sense that Nixon ultimately lost—a victim of his criminal behavior and utter lack of scruples. But the War on Drugs certainly brought ruin, poverty, and crime to minority communities, cost the nation outrageous sums of money, and expanded the scope of the federal government’s oppressive power. This was not done for any noble public purpose—it was a political gambit, nothing more

Thanks for this. I don’t see why you posted it, but it IS irrelevant. Political discussion bores me though, and historians too. Only wealthy folks have any power in this country anyway, mostly since they can afford lawyers.

I agree. He won’t answer why he passed the gas tax and registration. He blocked me from his main site on facebook and does not answer emails…. This politician needs to go. If I need to get a grass roots going, I will.

This is unacceptable behavior.

War on drugs just has never been fought properly.

One mechanized division, an aircraft carrier with support fleet, a dozen B-52 bombers, 300 A1 Abrams with berm breachment gear, and 100 or so Comanche helicopters would make The Triangle weed free in days.

These drug producers can’t even pick up their own garbage and would run away.

I’d really like to see a bill passed using these tools to clean up the area. People should have weed free schools and daycare centers, growers should go elsewhere- like out of the country and not come back.

Once apone a time if you mention chem trails, you would get looked at like a whack job conspiracy nut. Now you can purchase cloud seeding services. AKA chem trails.

Time to open the mind a bit, the governments are so corrupt, who is really in charge? This political season was horrible watching everyone fight over their choice of leader they identity with. Overlooking the most likely reality… we are all getting played.

Give me a break. Do you agree on all the things he has not done well. School lunches, he introduced Jerky that is full of chemicals and one more item. That is not healthy for any kids. There organic gardens that could be done in ever public school here in California, but instead he decides to do that. He does not have kids and does not understand the importance of it. He just wants to get ahead in politics. THat is not what it is all about.. You serve California and the other way around.

It’s way past time for change in the cesspool in Sacramento. Until the last few years I’ve been a lifelong Democrat, but no longer. I’m ready to vote for just about anybody other than a Democrat at this point. I sure hope the Republicans, or even the Libertarians see the opportunity and run a strong candidate against this guy.

McGuire, Woods & Huffman, have you ever notice their physical resemblence? It’s amazing.

They are also all empty suits with very little or no private sector experience.
