APD Says Shooting Wasn’t a Random Drive By But Rather a Dispute at the Residence

Press release from the Arcata Police Department:

Arcata police badgeOn July 16, 2017 at 2:45am, officers from the Arcata Police Department responded to the report of a shooting at the corner of 12th and C Streets in Arcata. Officers located a seventeen-year-old male, of Eureka, who had been struck one time in the leg by a bullet. The victim was transported to the Mad River Hospital with a non-life threatening injury. It is anticipated the victim will be released from the hospital today.

Investigators determined that the crime was not a random act and not a “drive-by shooting.” The alleged suspect was involved in a dispute at the house with the victim’s friends just prior to the shooting.

Unrelated to the dispute, officers from the Arcata Police Department responded to the house after receiving a noise complaint about the house party at 12:09am. Two police officers arrived at the house at 12:13am and 12:15am respectively. A loud party warning notice was issued to a tenant at the house warning the tenant that any subsequent complaints about the party would result in a citation. No other complaints were received until the shooting was reported at 2:45am.

The APD is continuing its investigation in to the shooting. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is encouraged to contact the Arcata Police Department at 707-822-2428.

Arcata has certainly changed but certainly not for the better, since I went to high school there in the late 60’s & early 70’s!!!

It ain’t the ole laid-back-backwards-thinking-hippie-refuge-small-cow-town-turned-college-town, now is it? I lived there in the ’90s and ’00s, and it’s changed quite a bit. But so has Eureka, Oakland, Sacramento, Redding, SF, Santa Rosa, etc. Arcata is still a chill town/city but it has grown a bit, maybe not for the best to some but to each their perspective. You are your community.

An under age party. Back in the 80’s it would of been shut down and everyone told to leave. Now they allow it. The drunker or higher they get causes nothing but VIOLENCE. Guns, knives and Bullshit. Cone on people And LEO’S first call SHUT IT DOWN….Just my opinion

Arcata started getting bad with Kevin Power Meter Kirby, aka another vacuum cleaner, and city hall wanting money from growers through pg&e.

They made a deal with The Devil’s Lettuce and crime soars…

How many degrees in Advanced Basket Weaving can support it?

Yaks, Ragman Pete Trading Cards, Bald Steve screaming at his mother while ripping off college kids with unpermitted Indian food, waring hot dog carts….

It means nothing now.

Dread John was the only character who used lettuce properly- as religious sacrament. Everybody else made it what it is today- a vile and corrupting influence on our town, truly the lettuce of the devil. Nothing means anything now unless it has a stack of cash and a neck tat and a loud voice. Loud town full of greedy posers, jumping around on the ashes of drum circle hippies-gone-by. Think Haight-Ashbury 1968-1970, after the intelligent ones bailed out….increasing hordes of wanna-bees strung out on smack, speed and STP. And of course…lots of devils lettuce to keep the mind numb enough to deny the reality. Your drum circle is a DJ and a handgun- Bang!

Thank you for you very wise comment. Unlike the prohibitionist peabrain, you distinguish spiritual appreciation from greed and avarice. Hopefully you value cannabis as a medicine and natural alternative to the pharmaceuticals useful pawn idiots die from. But that form of population control is GOOD!
