[UPDATE 4 p.m.] Some Suspects Still on the Loose After Foiled Marijuana Robbery; Three in Custody

Mendocino County Sheriff's Office MCSOMultiple male suspects may still be roaming the Covelo area on 162 between Willits and Covelo after a foiled marijuana robbery this morning.

About 2:30 a.m., the Mendocino Sheriff’s Department received a report that a marijuana robbery was in progress on Hwy 162 south of the Eight Mile Bridge, according to Lt. Shannon Barney. One of the victims had escaped the suspects by fleeing down the hill and calling for help.

Barney said that the Sheriff’s Department had officers in the Covelo area and were able to respond fairly quickly. The officers arrived on the scene, scattering the suspects. Eventually, a SWAT team was called in as well as back up from other agencies. “We had the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office’s helicopter agency assisting,” he said.

Attempts were made to block all escape routes but there were many roads in and out of the area, Barney said. However, between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., three adult male suspects were located along Hwy 162 and arrested.

“There could be as many as eight more likely five more, ” Barney said.

The young men taken into custody are local, he added.

UPDATE 4 p.m.: We’ve updated the above information to more clearly represent the actual area. The three men in custody are from Covelo, Willits, and Ukiah

Count this as a direct product of cannabis prohibition. The same type of activities were also noted at the end of alcohol prohibition.

Count this as a direct product of drug culture desperation. The profiteers only care about addicts feeding the habit. Then the government comes in to collect a cut of the blood money.
Disregard of consequence is a trait of greed AND addiction.

There is still a sizeable and obstinate anti-marijuana minority in the Federal Govt., with 20 senators saddled with a “D” grade (“no support for any significant marijuana law reform”), and 26 ingloriously awarded the big “F.”

Not surprisingly, 22 of them are Republicans, mostly from that great, L-shaped mass of red states that runs from North Dakota down to Texas and then across the South. But four of them are Democrats.

Without any further ado, here’s the list of the Senate’s most intransigent and recalcitrant pot prohibitionists (click on the scorecard for the individual particulars):
Sen. Jeff Sessions
Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL)
Sen. John Boozman (R-AR)
Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR)
Sen. Tom Carper (D-DE)
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)
Sen. Jim Risch (R-ID)
Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL)
Sen. Dan Coats (R-IN)
Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-IN)
Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA)
Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY)
Sen. David Vitter (R-LA)
Sen. Deb Fischer (R-NE)
Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH)
Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH)
Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK)
Sen. James Lankford (R-OK)
Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA)
Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC)
Sen. Mike Rounds (R-SD)
Sen. John Thune (R-SD)
Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN)
Sen. Jon Cornyn (R-TX)
Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA)
Sen. John Barasso (R-WY)

Pot will not save the world. There’s more stoned people every day, and I haven’t noticed the stoned people acting any happier than anyone else. In fact they act sort of, well, unintelligent. Getting the whole planet on drugs will not save anything, it will just cause a disaster. Clean and sober is the way, mon. In twenty years, I will be gone, so listen up: fat, drunk (or stoned) and stupid is no way to go through life, son. Smarten up: stop smoking that shit.

Weed is a drug. Period. If it alters your mental state its a drug. I belive the goverment wants everyone to be addicts. Easier to control the population that way. Starve em,take away there homes, turn em into drug addicts and when they revolt…..inprison them. We are all just sheep being herded by the wolf. So yes. Smoke some more dabs and tell yourself its medicine as you cant grow it anymore and have to buy it for 75$ an eighth from a “legal” grower whos bending u over the table and making millions.Whos the real dumbass who voted this in? U california yuppys! Im not anti marijuana, but we all have been framed legalization = taxation and regulation period. You are not free.

Thoughts on prescription drugs? Marijuana is anti-inflammatory, great for sore muscles, it helps people deal with pain and maintain weight during cancer treatment, also it is great to help people sleep without crazy side effects that prescription drugs have. Hemp is a great source of protein, and CBD oil treats many issues as well. There are a plethora of uses for marijuana and ultimately it is up to each individual to decide what is useful for their own intake.

You are so right it will dumb down an entire generation medical is so beneficial but recreational is going to have horrendous affects on our society. So politicians get their votes, government gets their tax dollars and there’s so much weed grown it is imploding so in the end it’s a win win for everyone but the grower.

Guys or girls like CHUMP are the last vestige of a rapidly shrinking subset of society that wants everyone to put their heads back in the the sand regarding cannabis. The internet has made the spreading of truth and science far easier today than even twenty years ago and, by doing so, has greatly weakened and even marginalized anti-marijuana propaganda. Within ten years, we will no doubt be looking at today’s anti-marijuana propaganda with the same sort of wonder at which we look at those from the last century.

Addicts can’t grasp the fact that well adjusted humans don’t need to abuse substances to alter their perception of reality.

Your post offers insight to the mind of an addict in denial that substances aren’t needed to enjoy life.

Narcotics Anonymous could help you understand the reasons behind your marijuana addiction and you’ll be surrounded by understanding people wanting to help you rise above your addiction to marijuana.

There’s something really illuminating when anything about marijuana gets so very many posts- angry, frequently vicious posts in response to anything negative- while stories about murder, mayhem, theft, etc not involving pot are relatively ignored unless someone wants to make a joke about it.

The same happens whenever there’s a county meeting. Despite important business being on the agenda, the meeting room empties once the discussion on the pot issue is done.

Pot users are apparently only focussed on their pot for the most part.

Sounds like at those meetings they’re the only interested people at all, and everyone else stays home. You said everyone leaves once that business is over. The problem’s not them, it’s everyone else who isn’t there.

Nothing is more sad and sick than what is happening to our future generations. Dabs with names like “Girl scout cookies” are intended for our children. Profiteering drug producers enjoy getting them hooked early, a lifetime of abuse=A lifetime of profit. The governments should be ashamed of them selves and so should those who are in support.

Drug users in general have several traits. They focus on the ritual. The constant obtaining and using of drugs is all consuming. Dope growers, however, only love piles of cash, piles of their favorite drug, noisy toys, and acting out in public. Male dopers also have a rich fantasy life, which they need to make up for their lack of ability to form relationships with the opposite sex, and their inability to perform sexually. The lack of sexual ability is what makes them drive too fast, act aggressively in public, and to be generally irritable. And, it may lead them to write silly stuff for publication!

Redheaded Blackbelt, is cannabis favorable. It is FOR the weed culture. It also is, fortunately, an open public forum. Write what you like. I certainly will.

My neighborhood, and my county, is full of “growers”. I know pot, and I can, of course smell it on people. It would be difficult to not be familiar with these issues in Northern CA. I see patients every day who are train wrecks from drug and alcohol use. Some of them expire before we see them. Drugs are not a good strategy for coping with everyday life.

RHBB of course, is a news site. For everyone. Thanks again!

There ARE people, who need no drugs to deal with reality. We live in a beautiful world, and it’s too bad so many folks feel the need to mess up their lives with drugs and alcohol.

Well, I think we all are in a similar situation.

I am not cannabis favorable, or cannabis unfavorable. I do favor cannabis to be grown on farmland, by farmers, not in the forest by, practically anyone at all.
I want this commodity produced by business-people, in a businesslike manner. I want all laborers involved to be paid legally, I want this commodity marketed openly, and I want taxation to apply at all levels. I want this commodity to be grown somewhere near the marketplace, and I want the environmental impact to be monitored and controlled.

For this county: I want growers to comply with all applicable laws. I want law enforcement to be able to spend time on processes unrelated to stupid drug crime. I want the drug culture routed, incarcerated, harassed and disrupted. I want heroin and methamphetamine to go away completely, but I doubt this will happen.

It would be nice if this sifted out in my lifetime, but I don’t expect it to occur that soon. I wish that humans could act like adults, stop being selfish, and someday can live together in peace. I don’t expect that to occur either.

In my sobriety I have learned that we can control our own behavior, but that we can’t control much else. I believe in time, cannabis will be replaced with something else, and the cache will be gone. I hope the trees eventually grow back. I expect the forest to win!

Cannabis is a trap. It deranges your neurochemistry, upsets a delicate balance of elegant function. It makes you think you are OK, even while you are driving your 73 camper down the 101 at 20mph in the fog of incompetence. Smoking cannabis wastes your life while making you think that cannabis is making your life better. This is a paradigm which is quite difficult to escape, just as growing enough “to get by” is a trap hard to escape from…

Good luck in the future! Thanks again Kym!

Addicts operate under the assumption that everyone is addicted to something and lack the ability to comprehend that well adjusted people do not need a substance to feel “normal”.

Above posts by addicts show this with comments stating if you don’t use marijuana, you drink.

The concept of living without substance abuse is foreign to them.

I hope the best for these drug addicts and one day they are able to settle their issues that steer them into a life of substance addiction.

So many lives tossed in a trash pit that could have been spent on a beautiful future instead of drug addiction.

Get help addicts, I pity your children watching you destroy your lives in front of them.
