Don’t Be Scammed by Crooks Using the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office’s Name

Press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

Humboldt County Sheriff badgeThe Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office has been receiving phone calls from the public regarding a “phone scam”. There is a male caller who states he is Lt. Haines from Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. The HCSO has no one by that name employed as a Lieutenant. The scammer states that the person he is calling has missed Jury Duty and  there is a warrant out for that person’s arrest. The caller tells the victim to meet him, or a third party, at the Humboldt County Sheriff Office at 826 4th Street in Eureka. One of the citizens who received a voice mail today from this caller phoned the number back as she was instructed to do.  A recording on the line stated, ” you have reached the sheriff’s office.”  The phone number appears to be a Santa Rosa CA number.  We are asking the public not to participate in this “scam” and to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 445-7251 if they receive a phone call of this nature.

You mean like “I’m with the Public Administrators Office. I have an order to sell all your stuff to County employees and their friends.” ?

I came here with the same cynical intent yall.

In other news, “Don’t be scammed by crooked Humboldt Sheriffs using the County’s name.”

Kudos to Lost Coast 4 breaking that story with the coroner’s office fiasco, truly important journalism.
