The marine unit docked its sheriff boat along the dock and contacted the suspicious subject who was identified as Jonathon Steele Caudle. During the investigation Caudle told deputies he was taking the wire without the property owner’s permission to make jewelry. • It’s about time!

  • Sounds like somebody was wired…

  • It’s great to see the “Grand Theft” charge! Hopefully, it sticks!

  • It’s great to see some of the police around here are doing their jobs, unlike FPD. You call them about drug dealings and they don’t bother to show up.

  • Honeydew Bridge C.H.U.M.P.

Parents got the middle name correct…

  • In the Loco story there are photos of the loot. Transformers and fuse panels in the pile say this isn’t for for a few pendants

  • Tweakers suck.

  • Not sure why kym cant copy and paste this losers face up,..
    Heres the clown.
Total jerk for taking others property, let allone the time and money its going to cost to fix this losers doing.
Wtf is wrong with this moron, he thought he could get away doing this in the middle of the day

    Hes a white canadian😉😉

    • I took the day off and the photo didn’t come out til later.

    • It would have been supper if you actually did some investigative journalism. Did you not read how the building, he allegedly stole from, had burnt down twice, within a few months of each event?

I think it would be the responsible thing to do is to follow up on this case.
Because, of course there were no charges brought, and the young man was exonerated, back on August 29, 2017. I think the reason was due to what pictures should have showed, an old out of code building, that had caught fire TWICE within six month, and had burnt basically to the ground. I wish I could show you the real pictures of the crime: A building whose fire was so hot it melted the metal, of nothing left standing intact in which anyone would say that there was an obvious value of more than $950. In order of the arresting person to make the decision to charge this as grand theft (with bail set at $35, 000) in cases like this, there needs to be an assumption made that the owners would want the property back. But, old burnt out building’s value, in this case was, left to the insurance adjusters. I read of a million dollars…

But, the young man has now been injured, not just by the poorly investaged article, unless there is bias with the reporter? Who only wishes to show one side “of crime?” But, there is also a monetarily injury. There was no damage done to the owner, nor the alleged property, by the young man in this article.
The way this article is presented is the epitome of poor journalism!
Good journalism would be report the facts. All of them.

Was the young man guilty of scavenging around rubbish, perhaps. Was he quilty of grand theft (taking > $950.00) of which he was chaged? No. Not unless the price of garbage has gone up. No, “No Trespassing!” signs, just a weak fence with a gate wide open, no locks. It appeared that the arresting office wasn’t very interested in securing the property, as the gate was still wide open hours after the arrest. I went by a few days after later and the gate was still wide open.

This makes me wounder, how many folks are arrested that are clearly NOT quilty. Do reporters only report one side of crime, while ignoring the other? Some crimes are more obviously. This crime…well who was the real victim?

      • The article not only states that this is a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, but it is specially colored yellow with a green stripe to indicate that it was not written nor investigated by this news site.

    • Hey!Kym, remember that huge fire you wrote about, that burnt the Eureka Ice House back on 12/31/16?
      That’s were this theft occurred.
Wow! Bet he made big bucks off of old burnt up wire.

  • They got boat cops up there? We can’t even get them to pursue murder cases and broad daylight drive-by shootings in SoHum, and they got boat cops up there???!!!

  • I think this whole thing is bogus. Most likely the cops are trying to frame him. His middle name is “Steele”. No way would he be taking copper.

  • Bay watch Eureka edition? Theres a show you don’t want to watch.

  • Lost Croat Outburst

Coppers saved the copper. Good job!

  • were these boxes actually in use or were they abandoned? Just wondering…I remember when my artist husband loaded two or three old railroad ties that had been lying on the side of the road for ages and he was immediately arrrested by officers who obviously had little else to do. Before you go off thinking this guy is public enemy #1, take a moment to consider……maybe he really is an artist repurposing old wire for his art. I don’t know. Do you?
