[UPDATE 7:06 p.m.] Vegetation Fire Near East Side of McKinleyville
A vegetation fire is burning in the Green Diamond property east of McKinleyville near Essex Lane off of Murray Road. The first call went out about 3:50 p.m. An air attack, a tanker, and a helicopter have been requested as well as ground crews.
UPDATE 4:37 p.m.: A potential for 10 acres, according to traffic over the scanner from one of the aircraft.
UPDATE 4:51 p.m.: An additional response called for, including a water tender from Fieldbrook Fire and a dozer.
UPDATE 6:27 p.m.: The “Diamond” Incident Commander has hand crews putting a line around the fire. A Green Diamond employee will be walking the dozer in.
UPDATE 6:51 p.m.: The fire is at 1.5 acres, according to traffic on the scanner.
UPDATE 7:06 p.m.: Supervisor Ryan Sundberg states on a closed community watch group on Facebook that the fire is “about a 5 acre fire that is fully under control.”

tis gonna be a bad yr for the forest and gas loving critters. i hope it will be a good yr for the health and survival of those 2 leggeds who firefight.
i pray all the time that no one tosses anything out a passing vehicle that will set the field next to me ablaze. from the # of cig butts i pick up at the crab park beach and area, well, people SUCK with their inability to be mindful and caring.
