I didn’t realize there were grassy hills in the balloon track parcel!!
That’s not a photo of the fire. It’s an Icon I use for vehicle fires. I would never put words across a photo documenting a current news story.
Another one???!!! Holy Crapola!!! Too many vehicle fires!!!
Glad to hear the fire is controlled. Where the hell is the Balloon Track?
It’s the area along the waterfront roughly from the big lumberyard over to about “A” St in Eureka. It used to have old train engines parked on it. The site that Arkley perioducally floats development plans for.
Thank you. I found a reference to the developer’s website when searching for the location. They sure have impressive illustrations of their proposal. Reminds me of Coronado!
Here’s an article with a little historical perspective. https://www.northcoastjournal.com/101101/cover1011.html
Thank you for that very informative and interesting article.
Thank you for this article. I had no idea there was so much history associated with this location!
If they ever do construct anything on this ground, I hope they will consider the possible effects of liquefaction of the underlying landfill during an earthquake.
Old train tracks across from warfinger building
Another arsonist??
There has been a car or structure fire every day or so for the last week it seems.
Is that the case kym or is it just a lot in the last month?
It has been bad but I don’t think there is any evidence of a connection.
Oh, I bet there’s a connection… At least half of them involve meth.
Sadly, I think you are right.

Thank you. This seems to be l
ocated near the old railroad switch yard “Balloon Track”.
Well, you tried. She even posted a link to an article spelling it correctly in the headline, but still…
OK – Think I got it now: ” Called the Balloon Track (or tract) for its long looping railroad track, this site is slated for development as the Marina Center” – Thank you.

Fixed. Stayed up too late last night getting the Garberville Fire story out. My brain is a little dead.
Thank you! Also, Great Job on the Garberville Fire Story! Very informative, educational and thorough.
