Flags in Humboldt County will be lowered to half-staff today through Friday after Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Stone passed away Wednesday morning. According to Stacy Hanson, spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, Stone worked as an extra help deputy at the Airport and Court Services.

He originally came to work for the Sheriff’s Office in 1971 as a correctional officer. He was promoted to Sheriff’s Deputy in 1973. He then took a break from law enforcement. In 2002, Stone was hired by Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office as an Investigator. Then in 2011 retired from there and hired on again with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.

The County of Humboldt posted the following information on their Facebook page:

The county is lowering its flags to half staff immediately in honor of Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Deputy, Mike Stone. He has passed away and flags will remain at half staff until Friday June 16th. We cannot thank you enough for your service to our community, Deputy Stone.

A good man. He always remembered the birthdays of the sheriff’s clerks (that’s what we were back in the olden days) RIP

It is so comforting to read these wonderful comments. Mike truly loved all who pulled together in law enforcement to work together and get the job done.
Rick D. I always thought Mike started his law enforcement career, clearing the smokers out of the “Boy’s” restroom at VPHS. Funny to think about years later😘

Mike will be greatly missed . He had such a passion for everything he did in life. One thing he loved was being a cop and Mike was the guy who you always wanted as your backup on the street. Sad sad moment yesterday for many of us – when we heard the news. RIP my friend and know you won’t be forgotten. Sending heartfelt condolences to his family. Chris and Bill Cook
