A Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputy has pulled over an older model black GMC SUV near Tompkins Hill on Hwy 101 and has the occupants at gunpoint as of 5:20 p.m. The deputy had responded to dispatch telling him earlier that the vehicle was suspected of a crime (we missed what that crime was.) The SUV was being pursued by a civilian in his/her own vehicle from the Loleta area.

  • Black SUV? Perhaps the Arcata incident?

  • Sounds like a determined civilian.

  • Hopefully it’s the SUV from out of state in the Arcata article.

  • More bad again the police are always there after the fact .what ever jappened to look for the trouble before it happens or at least try .do they know what patrols are ?

    • Yea just like Minority Report right. Few more years mog.

    • Police do patrol regularly, especially in areas where citizens have reported crimes, by both drug activity houses and suspected drug activity houses. Break-ins, prostitution, They can’t be everywhere. That’s why neighborhood watch groups are important. Get involved.

      • Wow what county do you live in??? I guffaw at your words
I guess you’ve never called late nite for help only to be told no officers are available for 4 more hours. Or reported a break in&mail theft and they wont even take your address. Patrol neighborhoods with high mail theft at nite??? Thats a joke around here and the word is out. Even the AAA office said theyve contacted the sheriffs multiple times regarding mail theft because so many folks werent getting their AAA/DMV stuff, and gotten no help. Dont get your car renewal stickers sent to your house, they are stolen all the time.

“Travelers” hear the theres little police presence in certain towns and flock there, look at what happened to garberville when the sheriff substation closed, it was literally infested with gross people.
For years there were always a few sheriffs around town, with surprisingly few issues between they and the general public. Growers had issues with how they were treated when raided by sheriffs, not the ones in town.
Tho they wouldnt go very far out of town at nite, they were at least around.

Imagine owning a biz and getting a call from your security company theres a break in. You turn on your video feed and see 3 guys stealing in your store. You and the security company call the sheriffs around 3am and they say sorry no one is available for another 3-4 hours. For real. So you get to sit and watch these guys trash your store for hours knowing if you go shoot them you’ll be arrested &/or potentially injured by the thieves. This was 2 years ago in the meadows business park.

A lot of folks have just stopped calling. A friend in blue lake persisted and after her 6th break in she finally got a sheriff who took fingerprints and a report and helped her out.
But patrolling areas?? Not happenin, obviously, or the thieves wouldnt come back 5 or 6 times.

  • seems to be an echo in here…

  • The crime rate seems to be escalating., to the point more officers are needed. They can’t be everywhere all the time. I’m sure law enforcement is as frustrated as we are.

    • More officers aren’t what’s needed. Stricter punishment and removal of catch and release are what will fix this

  • I think a little of both. They cannot possibly be everywhere at once but it would help having more patrolling at night/early morning when most of the crimes are occurring from these rotten thieves. Maybe more neighborhood watch. Getting rid of the drug problems would help tremendously. I think it will take a miracle on that one.

  • When seconds (or minutes) count, the police are only hours away.

  • My neighbor hood has the watch program, and it works .all of us in my hood all watch out for each other.what is great about my hood is there is only one way in ,and one way out .
