About 8:30 p.m. yesterday, a man who had evaded law enforcement during a high-speed pursuit southbound on Hwy 101 was captured near Bridges Creek in north Mendocino after a local resident located him on his property. A reader contacted us this morning telling us that he “caught a man well on my property [well beyond the locked gate]… .” After questioning the man and getting evasive answers including the man telling him he was looking for a girlfriend but not apparently knowing her name, the reader insisted the man return back to Hwy 101.

The reader doesn’t believe that there was a woman in the area. “[O]nly his tracks were visible on the wet roads,” the reader said.

When they reached the highway, according to the reader, California Highway Patrol officers and Mendocino Sheriff’s deputies arrested the man. “They informed me that he was involved in a high-speed pursuit.”

The suspect was driving a black Toyota Truck with Oregon plates and a busted out rear window.

UPDATE 3 p.m.: The reader recontacted us and said,

…I just found out that there was another suspect!a female driver….[law enforcement] left the vehicle on the highway hoping the owner would return…well she did! They said the reason l didn’t see any tracks is because she only had socks on ! I just want to put out a very heartfelt thanks to the highway patrol, our local sheriffs ( and there k9 brethren) as well as our local state parks service.from our family to all of you thanks!

  • Good thing no one got hurt!

  • Don’t not stop at the Peg House.

    • the misadventures of bunjee

Never don’t stop at the Peg House. Which he didn’t. He would have skated by if he did because no one was looking for him there.

      • Too little too late, as always with those who choose to blatantly break the law, by running from the cops!!!

  • Seems to me that the dude is lucky that he didn’t get shot especially if he was “well beyond a locked gate”.

  • Yikes!!so happy no one was hurt!!!

Toyota trucks account for most of the crime vehicle stories.

Why do criminals drive or steal Toyota trucks?

Thieves share knowledge and target vehicles with known vulnerabilities. Someone broke into my Taco in 5 seconds with a screwdriver. Thankfully an alert security guard who knows me scared him off. Now I use a steering wheel lock.

this makes no sense at all.

  • I wish someone would turn down my road! I’ll save the cops some time.

  • Y’all don’t even know the full story, only what’s on the news. Guys innocent, he didn’t even know it was stolen he was only driving cuz she didn’t have her drivers license and lied to him about the vehicle, and then he didn’t want to be in the car with her anymore because she was running from the cops, so he got out and ran and waited for the cops. And she took off, the cops didn’t want to believe him, cuz there was no proof of the girl. But she very well was there, and it’s pretty stupid that he got in trouble because of her.
