About 8:30 p.m. yesterday, a man who had evaded law enforcement during a high-speed pursuit southbound on Hwy 101 was captured near Bridges Creek in north Mendocino after a local resident located him on his property. A reader contacted us this morning telling us that he “caught a man well on my property [well beyond the locked gate]… .” After questioning the man and getting evasive answers including the man telling him he was looking for a girlfriend but not apparently knowing her name, the reader insisted the man return back to Hwy 101.

The reader doesn’t believe that there was a woman in the area. “[O]nly his tracks were visible on the wet roads,” the reader said.

When they reached the highway, according to the reader, California Highway Patrol officers and Mendocino Sheriff’s deputies arrested the man. “They informed me that he was involved in a high-speed pursuit.”

The suspect was driving a black Toyota Truck with Oregon plates and a busted out rear window.

UPDATE 3 p.m.: The reader recontacted us and said,

…I just found out that there was another suspect!a female driver….[law enforcement] left the vehicle on the highway hoping the owner would return…well she did! They said the reason l didn’t see any tracks is because she only had socks on ! I just want to put out a very heartfelt thanks to the highway patrol, our local sheriffs ( and there k9 brethren) as well as our local state parks service.from our family to all of you thanks!
