Hoopa Will Be Without Power on Tues

PG&E FEATURE CandlePress release from PG&E:

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) and the Hoopa Valley Tribe today announced the date for a scheduled power outage in order for crews to safely replace electrical equipment on power lines to improve electric reliability from Hoopa to Somes Bar in Humboldt County.

The scheduled two-hour power outage will occur on Tuesday, June 6 starting at 5:30 a.m. through 7:30 a.m.

“We worked together with PG&E to select a date and time that was the least disruptive to the residents of Hoopa,” said Rod Mendes, Director of the Office of Emergency Services for the Hoopa Valley Tribe. “We are hopeful this new work will help minimize future long-term outages.”

PG&E will notify the approximately 2,200 affected customers in Hoopa, Orleans, Somes Bar and Weitchpec about the scheduled work by phone this week and next.

“We apologize for the inconvenience that this scheduled outage will have on our customers in Hoopa but we are confident that the upgrades will lead to improvements in electric reliability and safety,” said Carl Schoenhofer, senior manager of PG&E’s Humboldt Division.

The scheduled outage comes after a tree fell onto a transmission line on Thursday, May 25, impacting service to 2,200 customers – 1,400 are in Hoopa. PG&E continues to make significant progress in electric reliability that benefits customers throughout its service area; including trimming and pruning dead or dying trees that could fall into power lines.

PG&E vegetation management crews are trimming and removing trees along distribution lines in the Willow Creek and Hoopa areas this month.  They are clearing limbs and vegetation from around power lines in order to prevent trees from coming into contact with a high voltage power line and causing an outage or fire.

Every year, PG&E inspects every mile of overhead power line in its service area. On any given day, contract tree crews are working in PG&E’s vast service area to clear vegetation from around lines and identify hazardous trees that could come into contact with overhead power lines.
