UPDATE 8:56 p.m.:

This is a press release from the Eureka Police Department. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

On 05/09/17, at about 4:45 PM, Eureka Police Department officers were dispatched to the vicinity of the C Street Market Square (1st/C Streets, Eureka) on the report of a fight with weapons after a caller reported a male subject was swinging a bat at a female.

The first officer arrived on scene a short time later and saw the male angrily brandishing what appeared to be a large club-like object at an adult female who also appeared agitated. The officer ordered the male, Brian Bickerstaff.Brian Christopher Bickerstaff (age 41, transient), to drop the weapon and get on the ground.
Bickerstaff reluctantly complied but pointed toward a nearby heavily tattooed, adult male who he claimed was in possession of a handgun.

The officer ordered the second male to lie face down on the ground. The male complied. Meanwhile, the female with whom Bickerstaff had been in an altercation, continued yelling threats and profanities at him further escalating the volatile situation. Jade EarlThe female, later identified as Jade Felecia Earl (age 32, transient), ignored repeated directions from the officer to stop and stay away from Bickerstaff.

As other officers arrived to assist, Bickerstaff and the second male were detained in handcuffs. When another officer told the still very agitated Earl to move further
away from Bickerstaff and have a seat on a nearby bench, she again refused to comply.

The officer then attempted to detain Earl in handcuffs but she physically resisted and a struggle ensued. With the assistance of other officers, Earl was handcuffed and taken into custody on a myriad of charges.

Upon further investigation, Bickerstaff was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for multiple offenses including brandishing a deadly weapon, possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a concealed dirk or dagger (two fixed-blade knives were located in his pockets), and probation violation.

After being medically cleared at a local hospital as a precaution, Earl was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for resisting an officer by force or violence (felony), assault on a peace officer, unlawful possession of a concealed dirk or dagger (a fixed blade knife was located in one of her pockets), possession of methamphetamine, possession of suspected heroin, possession of drug use paraphernalia (meth pipe), being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs in public, and probation violation.

No firearms were located at the scene and the second male, who was on active parole and in a relationship with Earl, was detained and released at the scene.

That was a short term study on a small group of dementia sufferers. Your post proves that smoking pot does not improve literary skills…..

No fuckin wonder a cruise ship with educated, wealthy, vacationers would n ever want to stop in this completly worthless port. Old town is disgusting. A total embarressment. Sick. Meth heads, violence, hookers. Nice job city council. Old town is a complete joke. I don’t spend one penny there, and i have lunch out at least once a week. I miss mazzotis, cafe waterfront. City council do your job. Clean up old town.

This is what is going to continue to happen since we are ignoring the local meth labs! We need to cut off the local supply of meth. All the local businesses are suffering because the source of the problem is not being dealt with. No, it’s not all coming from Mexico! Meth cooks are coming here from all over to ply their trade because there is no danger of being arrested. What’s next? Are we going to stop arresting drunk drivers because we don’t have the funds, knowledge, equipment, or time?

Humboldt county better hope the marijuana business is going to generate some money. It certainly won’t be coming from retired people moving here and pumping money into the economy. We are already losing our tourist money. Fishing and logging have died out! Bad news like this travels fast and people are not going into old town to spend their money on lunch or dinner, when they can’t be safe.

This major meth drug problem is all over Humboldt county and it’s spreading like cancer.

Turning your head and ignoring this problem will not make it go away. It has reached the crisis level here in this county. When will we address this pressing issue?

Come on city council, sheriff department, drug task force, Eureka city police. It’s time to step up, what are you waiting for?

I’d rather see the unconstitutional tax dollars being spent on an (man made if necessary) island with bare necessity accommodations and shuttle busses (ferries, parachutes) to transport the loosers to their chosen habitat. Their suppliers can parachute in supplies.
Live free and die hard.

Well, at least it wasn’t three openly racist black guys attacking one man, I can’t stand one more idiot screaming about justice for a violent assalient who got hurt while assaulting someone with his friends and girlfriend.

Bickerstaff is a constant problem in Old Town…He often camps out in the alley near Nooner. A few weeks back he was kicking the hell out of another guy right there in the alley when I got to work…
Eureka is pursuing discordant policies; trying to promote Old Town as the epicenter of our economy (a damn good idea) and simultaneously keeping the Mission there and all the adjacent group homes, etc…
A change of venue for the latter policy priority (helping out the homeless, which I support), is essential…

Maybe let all three duke it out right there next to the bay, as they get stuck with blades roll them in for crab feed! Three less worthless dregs on society, working the Eureka system as well as stinking up and degrading the Boardwalk area for all our visiting tourists.

Meth, heroine, marijuana seems to all go together.

There are plenty of narrow minded peabrains who equate smack and meth with cannabis. Until that distinction is clear we are not going to make progress quickly. Reefer madness still exists same as the other diseases of STUPID like prejudice.
