Road clear! Safety features still need to be installed. [Photo from Caltrans]

According to a Caltrans Facebook post,

Quick photo update from U.S. 101 north of Leggett, taken at about 5:00 AM this morning. Still a lot of work still to do for safety, such as installing the rockfall fence, but the roadway is clear!

Still on schedule to reopen by 6 PM today.

It’s been a heck of a ‘winter’!
We dug up what looked like a leak from my water line yesterday. Turns out it’s just a new spring/ water surfacing.
On target to be the wettest winter on record. Our environment has been tested.
Glad the roads are still (usually) passable.

Was told (in March) by one ‘lifer’ in So Hum that this was soon to be “the wettest”.
My neighbor who has measured rain for 35 years said this is inches from breaking the wettest she’s measured.
Maybe back in the 50’s, 60’s or 70’s there was more? I recall in the 70’s people saying the ‘average was 100 inches per year’ in So Hum.
What years were wetter, Scooter? And by what measure do you make the comparison?

By alternative facts and fake news. The probably will wind up the wettest rainy season on record. Rainy season runs from approximately November to May. So it ain’t over, yet.

Wish more people thought like you, about the “other guy” on the road. Respect goes a long way when it comes to safe driving. Disrespect and arrogance lead to problems.

As of this minute (4:40 pm 4/24) friend at the Peg House eating a “Mookie” — mmmmmm — waiting and hoping for road opening predicted for 6 pm. About 25 cars lined up so far…. if/when he gets through I’ll post again.

Thanks, CalTrans! Thanks, Kym! Thanks, Kym’s helpers!

5:10 pm — Friend at Peg House says pilot car just came through and cars are moving north! More later….

5:21 — Friend reports north of slide and describes road as “very tenuous” — lots of debris behind a barrier and brave Cal Trans workers watching for movement. So — drive carefully and be cautiously optimistic!
